4.0 out of 5 stars My first HVLP unit, July 10, 2006

This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
My 4 star rating is based on not really having any other HVLP spray unit for comparison. I like this unit quite well. The Mini Mite 4 turbine. is noisy, while I do not have the ability to measure db levels, I would rate it about the same in noise to my DW735 13" planner(loud). You definitely need hearing protection if you are going to operate the turbine anywhere close to where you will be spraying.

So far all I have used it for is latex enamel and it sprayed just fine. The spray gun has three different controls that will control the width of the spray pattern. The nozzle itself can be screwed in or out which offers basic width control, additional control can be obtained by adjusting the airflow where the hose connects (a quick release coupling) to the gun, and by adjusting the needle itself. Just in my initial testing, I was able to get the spray width down to approximately 1". Using the four stage MM4 turbine and the standard tip included, it handled latex thined about 15%, I did not try unthinned latex.

The standard color cup holds enough paint for smaller projects, such as an end table or coffee table, a large chest would probably require a refill (or two) during use. The spray gun is easy to clean, remove the cup, pour whatever paint is remaining out and fill part way with an appropriate thinner (I used water for latex) and spray the thinners cleaning the paint flow channel. Repeat as necessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing results with a small price, September 16, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this unit when Amazon had their 20% off sale. It is the same thing as the Q-4 PRO Quiet version, same motor, same fan, gun and hose except you save over $200! It says the PRO is much quieter. Yes it may be but the MINI is not that noisy, about the same as a shop-vac. Besides, I made the mistake of putting the fan unit inside my spray booth (read garage) and got atomized finish all over the motor unit. I tried to clean the unit with solvents and the logo dissolved right off - what a mess! Not to mention the sponge filter clogs much faster, because it's trying to suck in dirty air. Now I put the unit outside the garage where the air is clean and if I shut the door half way, I don't hear the unit that much.

As far as the sprayer goes, it's construction is solid and performs well. Much better than the mid level HVLP conversion (compressor) sprayer I used to use. The conversion gun required so many adjustments to get the desired flow, it was purely a frustrating experience. Each time I use the darned thing I get inconsistent results. Lord knows how many times I had to sand down to bare wood so I can re-finish the work again and again (read angry clients).

With the MINI-MITE 4 all I do is fill it with the material, turn one nozzle to fine tune, test and spray away. Now I can spend more time on spraying than setting up the gun. For easy clean up I line the cup with a zip-lock sandwich bag (make sure your finish material and cleaning solvent does not dissolve the plastic bag, also make sure the lid lock is cranked tight to ensure no leakage). Any remaining material left over can be soaked with paper towel, zipped and tossed. Line again with zip lock, put some cleaning solvent and clean the gun. Zip, toss and you're done. To further ease clean up I covered the hose with a plastic sleeve. The local hardware store sells poly-vinyl sleeves for plumbing??? for about $.42 a foot. Snake the hose through the plastic and tape the ends. Done, no more messy finish on the hose.

Get this unit you will love it. Not only that, you will never go back to conversion HVLPs any more.
Note: if you are looking at the 3 stage units, pay a few extra and get the 4 stage you will not regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sprayer, super value..., August 2, 2007

This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
Outstanding product. Great bang for the buck compared to the Fuji Q4. This system also has a 4 stage turbine (the same as the Q4 I believe) but for about $200 bucks less than the Q4. Use the savings to purchase the 6 foot whip hose and the 3 mini cup set and you're still ahead well over $100. Fuji Industrial Spray Equipment 6-Foot Flexible Whip Hose #2049FFuji Industrial Spray Equipment Mini-Cup Set, 3-Piece #9080I highly recommend these accessories. The unit is about as loud as a shop vac and still quieter than most shop equipment, but I use only for short periods at a time and wear ear protection so the exra noise is not that much of an issue.

Since I purchased the unit, I did a test spray on shelving units in my shop, followed by refinishing an oak table, a wicker lounge chair, a wrought iron bench, and a desk I made for my daughters art room. Outstanding results on all of these projects using Benjamin Moore paints and Minwax varnish products. Saved a tremendous amount of time as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line HVLP, June 9, 2008

This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
Just bought this Fuji Mini-Mite 4 from Amizon and I have to say it is one of the nicest HVLP sprayers I have used, and I have used quite a few from top known names to cheap ones. I have been a painting contractor for over 25 years and I am very picky about quality and price. I had never heard of this brand, Fuji, before and was a little hesitant at first, but after reading the reviews I took a chance, and it paid off, I am very happy I did not spent another $500.00 for a well known brand name, this sprayer is nothing but high quality and performance. It is very easy to use and setting your controls is thoughtless, and as far as the noise goes, don't waste your money on the quiet version unless your in a small shop where a little noise would bother you, to me it was rather quiet, but I use it outside mostly. You can't go wrong with this sprayer, even if cost a few hundred more bucks I would have still been thrilled with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fuji Mini -4, March 25, 2008

This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this unit and read the advice of other reviewers. I got the 6' whip hose, mini 3 cup set and the 3mm nozle set. I've found the spray gun to lay down a great finish and it only takes about 20 minutes between getting the gun out and final clean-up. Also, get some mesh/metal screens for the fluid uptake from the cup (it keeps the unmixed solids out of your finish). Great HVLP results!

If you're trying to decide between the Q4 and the Mini 4, I'd recommend getting the Mini. They are both 4 stage turbines. The Q4 has a patented baffle system on the unit to quiet it. But, when you spray, there's a 25' hose (+ the whip hose) between you and the Mini 4 unit. Its about as loud as a shop vac - which is quiet from 25' anyways. Save yourself the $200, over the cost of the quieter version.

FYI - Don't spray an oil based finish inside a home (without an explosion proof exhaust fan - oil based finishes will cause a flash fire/explosion in your garage with an electrical spark or the pilot light of a furnace!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Tools make the job, March 28, 2008
This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
After using an "alleged" HVLP cheapo and getting the results I paid for. I did a lot of research and decided to invest in a Fuji. It has lived up to it's billing in every application. I have sprayed everything from latex to a combo of stain, sealer and varnish with amazing results. All of my work is done in the field and this little unit gives me spray booth results. It's worth every penny I paid for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first spray system - great results!, April 14, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
This product (Fuji Mini-Mite 4 stage HVLP) is my first spray system of any kind. I just used it to spray polyurethane on stained wood (maple). The results are great - much better than anything I could have done with a brush. I did purchase the accessories recommended by other reviewers (6-Foot Flexible Whip Hose #2049F and Mini-Cup 3-Piece Set #9080). The gun came with a #4 air cap and I purchased a #3 also, which should cover my spray needs for some time.
The learning curve was not long. I got the hang of using the gun and adjusting the flow pretty quickly. I was not looking forward to clean-up, but that was easy also. (Save your lungs and get a good respirator.)
I am very happy with this spray system and look forward to my next project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fuji Mini-Mite hits home run, January 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I recently purchased the Fuji Mini-Mite 2904 and painted a table that I had made for my wife. I never minded staining and finishing pieces but I always dreaded painting. This rig changed all that. Its very simple to get the desired fan and amount of product onto your project. No runs no drips no errors! I also got the whip hose with it and am glad I did. This helps in tight places so you don't drag the hose across your work, its just a whole lot more flexable and easier to bend and I suppose lighter. So far I've only painted a couple of pieces but I can proudly say they both came out fantastic. As far as noise goes, its the same as a shop vac, not bad at all. Don't be afraid of this product, its everything they claim it to be.

First class, excellent HVLP spray set. Easy to use, I would think, even for a beginner. Very good instruction manual with the set, very good customer support, and a long history of a great product. This will spray anything reasonable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sprayer, August 31, 2009
By
This review is from: Fuji 2904 Mini-Mite 4-Stage HVLP Spray System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased the Fuji Mini-Mite HVLP sprayer several months ago, and I am very happy with the unit. I am a photographer and I use the sprayer to spray several coasts of a water based sealer on large photographs that I print on canvas. I also purchased the smaller plastic cups. They also work great. I keep one filled with a satin finish sealer. Another with a matte finish sealer. And one filled with water. This makes the clean up process very easy.

As others have mentioned, I don't find the unit any louder than a shop vac.
