5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 10x32 binoculars, July 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fujifilm 10 x 32 Offroad Binocular (Electronics)
I bought a pair of Fujifilm 10x32 Offroad binoculars from Amazon last week for $64.80, betting on Fujifilm's reputation set by its larger, more expensive astronomical binoculars. I was only able to find the same minimal description of the 10x32's specifications (and no reviews) on Amazon and elsewhere online. Fuji's website doesn't even mention this Offroad model and the 8x32 and 10x32 binoculars look to have been introduced just in the last 6 months. The only observation anyone seems to have made regarding the 10x32 has been its history of wildly varying price--I've seen some outlets selling these binoculars for $149.00. I'm guessing Amazon is just unloading an overstocked item at a much reduced price.

Well, they arrived today and I have to say they are very nice binoculars indeed. They are lightweight, sturdy and offer very good optical performance. The right eye focus adjustment is firm with tightly-grouped click stops--so it will not wander on its own once set. The central focus is smooth, quick and not so free as to wander on its own. The central pivot that adjusts the view spacing is quite firm. The twist-up eyecups have two click-stop settings and are firm enough to hold position where ever you might want to momentarily set them. Adjusting viewing with glasses (eyecups twisted down) or without glasses (eyecups twisted full out) is very quick and it is easy to get everything adjusted where you want it to stay.

Fujifilm doesn't mention what grade of glass went into the binoculars and there is no mention in the enclosed manual. But from the bright view and even illumination across the whole field and sharp focus across most of the field of view with minimal color fringing only noticable toward the image margins, I'm guessing they went with better quality glass. These 10x32's work well enough for me--and I'm looking hard for things to be disappointed about. There is no viewing of the interior barrel of the binoculars or circular light artifacts as in some brands. The 10x magnification requires a steady hand and the view is not as wide as 8x magnification or with wider lenses, but if you want a small, light pair of binoculars that let you key in on objects of interest, even as close as a meter, then these 10x32's are currently a good deal.

Over the course of the day, I watched a hummingbird from 5 feet away, small fish in a stream that would not have stayed in view had I gotten close, flocks of sandhill cranes, damsel flies, a nearly full moon and sharply rendered landscape features--all from small binoculars easy to wear or stash in the glove compartment or a day pack.
