The FinePix A600 combines 6.3-megapixel resolution with an award-winning, innovative Super CCD sensor. The sensor features an octagonal pixel design that allows you to capture highlights and shadow detail in every picture you take (the Super CCD sensor is the recipient of the IEEE's Walter Kosonocky Award for Outstanding Achievement in Image Sensor Technology). Using the human eye as a model and mimicking the way it functions, the sensor enhances vertical and horizontal resolution, improves color reproduction, widens dynamic range, and increases signal-to-noise ratios and light sensitivities. All of these factors play important roles in the production of higher-quality digital pictures.

The A600 features a 3.0x optical zoom Fujinon lens with a focal range equivalent to 36-108mm on a 35mm camera. Fujinon, Fujifilm sister company, produces these high-quality optics that are used by broadcasters, astronomers, scientists, the military and others to bring their subjects closer with crisp, clear image quality. The A600 comes equipped with a large, 2.4-inch, high-resolution (112,000 pixel) LCD monitor housed in the attractive metallic-finish body. The bright, sharp LCD features an anti-glare coating that improves LCD viewing in direct light. Compose your photos with ease in all kinds of light conditions with the assistance of the A600's monitor. Plus, its generous size adds to the pleasure of sharing photo playback with friends and family.

For best results, choose a shooting mode that optimizes the A600's exposure for a given situation. Macro shooting lets you zoom in on small details. The Sport mode captures fast movement, and the 3:2 Format mode helps you frame your shots for the best results for prints.

Ever run out of digital storage just at the wrong moment? Not with the A600. With 12 MB of built-in storage you'll never have to miss that special shot. Think of it as your internal insurance policy for those great, not-to-be missed photo opportunities. Amazingly easy to operate, all you have to do is switch-on the FinePix A600, and you'll be ready to shoot. Controls have been arranged for one-handed operation, eliminating the need to fumble with a bunch of ill-placed buttons or scroll wheels. The full range of functions includes the 3x optical zoom, a selection of convenient scene positions (portrait, landscape, sport, and night), enhanced macro mode, and slow synchro flash. You can even view your photos in 3:2 aspect to ensure that all the elements of your picture are included when you order prints.

I have many cameras, including a Nikon D50, an Olympus SP-500UZ, a Canon Powershot A540, a Fuji Finepix A360, a Nikon Coolpix 5700, and of course this one, the Fuji Finepix A600. My favorite compact is the Canon A540, BUT - its just a bit too big to carry on your belt 24/7, which is what I do with this Fuji. What I like about the Fuji cameras is the color. Fuji colors just seem to pop off the screen to me. I can usually tell when browsing Flickr, or other photo sites, which pictures were taken with a Fuji before I look at the specs.

I would give this Fuji 5 stars if they increased battery life a bit, improved the rather crappy preview screen, and added a few more manual controls. But the pictures I've taken with it I love - and I love its portability, and the fact that it uses AA batteries. (I hate proprietary batteries...) I'd recommend it, particularly for a carry everywhere camera.

I bought this camera because I wanted a smaller, lighter, digital camera with a larger LCD screen. I am very pleased with the quality of this camera for this price range. I find it simple to use and just right for someone who enjoys a point and shoot camera without too many confusing buttons on the outside. The movie mode is great for capturing those special moments when you do not have your cam corder handy. It takes great pictures and is easy to carry around with you.

A NICE HANDY CAMERA FOR GENERAL USE, INDOOR SNAPSHOTS AND CLOSE OUTDOOR SHOTS.

PROBLEMS:

EATS BATTERIES LIKE A GANG OF TEENAGERS RAIDING THE ICE BOX.

FOCUS IS "IFY", INDOORS WITH FLASH IT MAY LOOK GOOD ON THE REPLAY, BUT WHEN YOU DOWN LOAD THE PHOTOS THEY ARE FUZZY.

IN DOORS WITH FLASH YOU BETTER BE CLOSE TO THE SUBJECT OR THE PHOTO WILL BE DARK.

ALL IN ALL AFTER YOU GET USETO IT, ITS A NICE LITTLE CAMERA. SIMPLE TO USE AND HANDY. YOU JUST HAVE TO STAY WITH IN ITS LIMITATIONS. WELL MADE AND SOLID. JUST CARRY A LOT OF EXTRA BATTERIES
