From the Manufacturer
The FinePix JZ300 has a 12-megapixel CCD, a 2.7-inch high-resolution LCD and steps up with a huge Fujinon 10x wide-angle optical zoom lens (28mm-280mm equivalent). Encased in a high-grade brushed aluminum metal body, it's not only well protected from bumps and scrapes, but features a simple, yet elegant design. The JZ300 also has a new mode dial for additional convenience and functionality.
FinePix JZ300 Highlights
The new J-Series models all offer stunning movies in 720p with sound and high-quality stills at 1920 x 1080.
Tracking Auto Focus
Previously featured on Fujifilm's DSLR-styled FinePix S1500, the new J-Series models feature Tracking Auto Focus which is perfect for when you need to take a picture of a moving subject and can't keep your subject in the frame. Just switch Tracking Auto Focus on and it will track your subject and ensure that you achieve a crisp picture with you subject in the center of the frame in perfect focus.
- Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO): This mode intelligently detects the scene type you are shooting and optimizes the camera's focus, exposure and white balance, so whether you're photographing flowers or a holiday landscape, you will get flawless photos at the press of a button.
- Dual Image Stabilization: Long-zoom cameras need stabilization more than any other compact, with handshake and subject movement a particular problem in low light at telephoto range. The FinePix JZ300 reduces blur to a minimum by deploying Picture Stabilization to automatically increase shutter speeds to freeze action, and mechanical CCD sensor shift stabilization to counteract the problems of handshake. By cleverly combining these two, blur is reduced to an absolute minimum.
- Face Detection and Automatic Red-eye Removal: To provide perfectly exposed and focused portrait shots, each J-Series model is fitted with Fujifilm's latest Face Detection technology which is able to track up to 10 faces simultaneously, at almost any angle to the camera. The system instantly corrects red-eye and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.

To the positive. This is definitely a pocket compact: small, weighing just 5.5 oz, it slips easily into purse or pocket. It's also a fast P&S. The focusing is extremely fast and the shutter response is quite acceptable. The printed results without editing and taken outdoors in sunlight are sharp when printed in 8.5x11 size, although the colors seem pushed a bit rather than natural. However, I didn't find that to be unpleasing and the photo can always be toned down in a photo editing program.
Another plus is the camera shoots HD video, but a computer program like Picasa, which will show the video, shows it in very poor quality and resolution.
This camera is very much a P&S. If you're looking for simplicity, it fits the bill. The anti-shake feature is negligent. The printed instruction manual tells you to hold the camera steady with your elbows pressed to your sides to take the picture. Not an encouragement for macro or low light, hand held photography. However, the zoom does go out to a full 10x optical with good results in bright sun. I haven't tried it on a rainy or overcast day yet, but did try shooting in the direction of the sun with good results and no noticeable purple fringing.
Indoors with flash is acceptable. The flash distance is 1.6 feet. Any closer than that, the flash does go off, but it gets the shadow of the lens in the lower right corner.
Most of the features such as sunset, beach, snow, etc. are built into the F1 setting on the top wheel and through the menu system.Read more ›
Thankfully Targets returns policy is AMAZING and the returned it no questions asked.
My last camera was a Fujifilm camera, it was a big bulky camera which I was happy with but really wanted a smaller camera as it broke due to carrying it around in my purse and it geting knocked around to much.
After having the Kodak for about about a week and becoming very disappointed with the picture quality I know I have to go back to Fuji film as I had always had great comments on the photos I took on my old Fujifil camera.
Anyway, I chose this camera (Fujifilm JZ300)as it was nice and compact but still had the 10x zoom (which is great for such a small camera) 12mps, which gives great crisp pics and also has the HD video (which is AMAZING btw - and I also don't have to convert it on my PC and can put it straight on DVD......Sweet!!!)
The picture quilty is great and although indoors is never as good as outdorrs its still great and I am so happy I upgraded to this camera.
You really won't be disappointed with this camera as it does everything you need it to and more.
I love the pictures I take, the featuresare easy to use and I like the fact you can take black and white and sepia etc.
I hope this review has helped and you enjoy the camera as much as I do.
No matter what setting I use I get grainy indoor photos. At times, if I'm sitting close to the object, I will get a good photo. But typically the photos come out grainy. I even use the setting where it takes two photos back to back, one with flash, the other without, and still both photos will be grainy.
I am not happy AT ALL with this camera. Yes, I get longer videos, but I have to carry both cameras with me when I visit the grandkids. The old Fuji camera to take still shots. And this new Fuji camera to take videos. Kind of a hassle, taking both cameras, but I can't get good still shots with this new Fuji camera.
Ended up replacing this camera with a Canon (PowerShot SD1400IS, which I love so far). At first I had decided to keep the Fuji JZ300 to take videos, since it seemed to do a decent job. But the Fuji has this sound sensor which turns off the recording of sound if the camera doesn't pick up any noise. This turned out to be a real problem! It would not start recording sound quick enough, so you missed the first two or three words a person said! There would be complete silence during playback, and then you'd see the person in the video start to talk, and then the camera would start back up recording the sound. Very frustrating! Also, I got tired of hearing the camera itself zooming in and out during the taking of videos.Read more ›
