This is the first digital camera I've bought and am extremely happy with it. The Auto setting is excellent. Just point & shoot and it takes great pics. It has lots of features that I haven't had time to play with yet. The LCD screen is a great size and also has a regular viewfinder if that is what you prefer.

If you want a great little camera that has lots of features, that takes very nice pictures and not worry about spending a fortune this is the camera for you.

For the money the S-700 gives you more bang for the buck...
For the beginner or the seasoned photographer it is packed with all the features that the expensive boys have, and look at the money you saved.

I'm not a professional photographer, but I've had 4 other digital cameras in the past (including a smaller Fujifilm product). The S700 hands-down beats those and others belonging to friends & family that I've used.
One of the main reasons I bought this camera is for the zoom feature; I take a lot of bird pictures (esp. hummingbirds), and right away I got just AMAZING shots of my subjects. I know digital zoom reduces the quality, but after using the 10x optical zoom - and not getting quite what I wanted - I used the digital zoom for extreme closeups. Even these are spectacular. Everyone I show them to wants to know what camera I used. I show these pictures on a 32" widescreen TV, and they look great - a little pixelly, yes, but consider the blow-up size. Some reviewers aren't real happy with the semantics of "true shake reduction" vs. a high shutter speed, but with the results I'm getting, I don't really care. This setting or the sports setting freeze action with clarity, and I'm getting the best shots I've ever taken.
I've used a lot of the features in a short time in order to test the camera, and so far the only blunders have been my own. I expect this to be the last camera I ever have, if it stands up to my frequent use.
Last but not least, it doesn't "eat" batteries - I took hundreds of photos before I needed to change batteries.
I chose to get the kit to avoid buying "piecemeal" and I'm glad I did. It's a little more costly but includes everything you could need. The little tripod works great, and with the 2G SD card you get over 1,000 highest-quality images and/or allows for a long video to be shot. Screen protectors are something that should be put on every camera, but I probably wouldn't have gone out and bought them separately. This is a great package which I highly recommend.

I bought this camera for myself after my experiences at work using the same camera. At work I often used the macro capabilites to send photos of part defects back to the home office. You can see defects with the camera that are not visable without magnification. At the other extreme, the 10X telephoto allows me to take low power astronomical photos, like the moon, Venus, Jupiter conjunction that occured this winter. Both my work camera and my home camera have performed flawlessly and the accessory kit provided all the necessary extras to get started immediately. For outdoor photos you can switch to the viewfinder and avoid sunlight washout of the viewscreen. There is one drawback, the low number of pixels, but that is actually an advantage at work where I have to reduce photo size for e-mail. However there is a new version of this camera with, I believe, 10 megs. This is the forth digital camera I have had and it is a great camera for the price.

This is my 3rd digital camera (in last 12 years) and it is very easy to use. It has a great zoom and the features are easy to find without consulting the manual. Picture quality is better than my old digital. My only issue so far is that often my big thumb on my right hand seems to accidentally press one of the buttons on the back when holding the camera to take a picture, usually the mode menu button. I either need to cut off my thumb or Fuji needs to move that button.

What can I say, as someone who loves taking pictures, but never had a digital camera, this one is that takes great pictures and can bring someone up to the next level in photography. I like the ergonomics, (the positioning of the shutter could'nt be better) and it even takes good pictures at night outside. You won't be dissapointed with this camera!

It's so easy to use,if you wanna point and shoot but there's still lots to learn if you want to use it manually. A great buy for a novice or an advanced user.
