Be advised that this review is for the 2005 model of the Fujitronic FR-803. Since then, they have manufactured a cheaper version. The current version is all plastic and flimsy. The 2005 version featured in this review is much sturdier and made of polymers like a Sanyo or Zorjirushi. I cannot guarantee the value or performance of the newer model.

I just received my Fujitronic FR-803 4 cup rice cooker. This is the second rice cooker that I have owned. The first one that I bought was a Salton 3 cup rice cooker. It was horrible. I used it once, and then never again. As I start to lead a healthier life style, I incorporated brown rice into my diet. I would always cook it in a pot, and often times, I would end up burning it, or not putting in enough water, or something. Needless to say, I did not have a consistent batch of rice.

In comes the Fujitronic FR-803. Now, I did quite a bit of research before bying this rice cookers. I went to several websites as well as speaking to people that I know that have rice cookers. Zojirushi is by far the most well known rice cooker manufacturer in the "Asian" world. But, after pricing several of their models, I was a little reluctant to spend upwards of $100 for a rice cooker. So, we have Fujitronic. As you see with this survey, there is not a lot of reviews of it. However, from reading the product description, I see that it appears ot have all of the necessary features that Zojirushi has, at half of the price. So I bought it.

Now I have only used it a couple of times, and I have only used it to make brown rice (basmati), but let me tell you that this machine is AWESOME!!! A consistent and perfect batch each time. And clean up is a snap (rinsing 4 pieces).

Decent rice cooker for the money. Does white basmati really well. Have had some problems burning brown basmati, maybe I need to experiment with the water I add. Easy to clean, plate at the top pops off and can be washed.

Fujitronic FR-803 4-Cup Rice Cooker

After having researched rice cookers and having chosen another brand, I made an impulsive change to buy this one, based on another consumer's review.

This model does not self-adjust for different types of rice. Some types burn and stick to the bottom. Some remain excessively moist. Discovering the proper amount of water for each type of rice is experimental.

The cooker cover does not remove for cleaning. Cleaning is difficult around the rim, at the hinge, and for the inside cover.

This model does not include a steamer basket.

I would not choose this product again.

I received the rice cooker much sooner than I had expected (which was very good). I am not a dedicated gourmet cook, but I do like good tasting food when it is cooked in a minimal amount of time. This rice cooker does it.
You have to rinse the rice and make sure you put in the right amount of water to prevent sticky, gummy boil over. With the cooker, my rice tastes better--also my rice is kept warm which is convenient for me if I want to eat the rice more than once during the day.

I got this for my friend as a gift, and she is very happy with it. Unlike a cheap cooking pot model, this one is sealed, and has less of a chance for spillover. It also keeps rice warm for a good few hours so that she can have dinner and a snack with it. I haven't seen her try to do anything fancy with it, as she generally just wants rice and lots of it, but you can't lose if you want a lot of rice or have a big family.
