Very good "hard-bolied" PI caper,

This review is from: Full Cleveland: A Milan Jacovich Mystery (Paperback)
This author/series seems to have fallen through the proverbial cracks with most people I know, (who like these type of books), having never heard of Milan Jacovich and Les Roberts. That's too bad. These are straight forward, crisp PI mysteries, (set in Cleveland, Ohio) and are similar to the books of Greenleaf, Healy and Valin, i.e if you enjoy those authors' books you won't go wrong here.

I've read 4 of these Les Roberts books now, including Pepper Pike, and I am now officially "hooked" on the series and the characters. Les has a great ability to keep the pace moving and the books never seem to have slow spots. Well done.

This review is from: Full Cleveland: A Milan Jacovich Mystery (Paperback)
The Full Cleveland is a euphemism for the 1970's (still in the mid-1980's in Cleveland) of the leisure suit trend. A "full Cleveland" is a leisure suit worn with white dress shoes AND white belt (the kind with two sets of holes was the best ;).
This is my favorite Les Roberts/Milan Jacovich series. Milan is a Vietnam vet, ex-cop, private investigator. He is a product of ethnic Cleveland (Slovenian). In this book Mylan is investigating a theft from a casino (there aren't any in Cleveland...officially) BUT the local Mafia underboss has an interest in the outcome so he sends a recently paroled button man to "help" Mylan. Mylan doesn't want the help BUT he owes the family a favor so he has to tolerate his new associate. The associate still dons his full Cleveland. No plot spoiler here so read it. Should be a movie. Some day the leisure suit WILL return (it is written in the Book of Revelations) and Cleveland folk will be the best-dressed. |
