Miles Jacoby, narrator and protagonist of Full Contact, is a prizefighter turned PI. Most of the action takes place in Manhattan. Jacoby, known as Jack to his friends, has been given two seemingly unrelated cases to solve. One involves finding a missing teenage girl. The other is an investigation of the murder of a gambler. The police already have a suspect for the second case in custody. He's Nok Woo Lee, a Chinese bookie whom Jack numbers among his friends.The bulk of the narrative consists of dialogue which serves to make Full Contact a very quick read. Unfortunately, most of the dialogue is completely inauthentic sounding. Further detracting from the book's appeal is the fact the characters, other than Jack, consist of uninteresting stick figures who not only lack depth but are as inauthentic as the dialogue Randisi has them utter. Moreover, the plotting is rather haphazard and not very compelling at all. Full Contact is a weakly crafted, lackluster work of fiction. Not recommended. |
