An Outstanding Brigade History,
By A Customer
This review is from: Full Duty (Regional Interest) (Paperback)
FIVE STAR...By far, one of the best Civil War books I have ever read...Mr. Coffin's extensive research of newpapers and personal letters brings to life an often forgotten group of Civil War veterans. Previously, I was unfamiliar with the 2nd Vermont's spectacular role in the battle of Gettysburg. Mr. Coffin's easy to read, step-by-step approach to telling the 2nd Vermont's story from its inception thru its disbanding provides a wonderfully clear picture of what its brief tenure in the Army of the Potomac was like. I hope Mr. Coffin will take the time to write additional books on Vermont's role in the Civil War or other brigade histories. Great Book!!!!

Author does a wonderful job in capturing the feelings of soldiers and civilians on the home-front. Lots of primary source material. A unique voice that should capture the interest of anyone interested in the Civil War.

A good book. My only complaint is that it doesn't go into great detail about several battles, but I'm sure that was intentional. A book with all of that detail would be much bigger and far more comprehensive than the author wanted!
A very good read.

What about Norwich University?,
This review is from: Full Duty (Regional Interest) (Paperback)
The author of this book claims to be providing a comprehensive account of the great impact the state of Vermont had on the outcome of the American Civil War. Yet, the profound role that Norwich University (otherwise known as the Military College of Vermont) and its gallant alumni had in determining the course of this great historic event is given hardly any credence whatsoever. The fact that Norwich University is mentioned so very little in this book leads me to the conclusion that the authors research and scholarship is poor at best. So very sad!
