About the Author

Carol Beck is an intuition teacher with clients nationwide, an artist and author. Her other book, NOURISHING YOUR DAUGHTER, HELP YOUR CHILD DEVELOP A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD AND HER BODY. Carol specializes in helping people use their blocks as openings to uncover their own intuition and creativity. Carol graduated from University of California, Davis with honors, earned her Master of Science degree from University of North Texas, Denton and is a credentialed energetic practitioner. Carol has devoted 11 years of study to The Science of Energy: Auric Healing, Sacred Healing using Kabbalah, and Applied Quantum Physics; all of which she brings along with her laughter and relaxed style to her work with individuals and groups.

Nan Allison, MS, RD, LDN is a licensed nutritionist, healthcare lobbyist, and owner of Nan Allison Nutrition Consulting,Inc. Her ongoing interest is in why individuals and cultures choose to eat the way they do and how to facilitate change at the individual, corporate and community levels. She helps clients who struggle with a variety of nutrition related issues: dieting, eating disorders, sports nutrition, diabetes, corporate wellness and cafeteria programs--always from the perspective that healing (both individual and corporate) is a process rooted in guided self- exploration and discovery. Nan brings a dual focus to her consulting business. The first is a clinical nutrition focus which incorporates her knowledge of traditional as well as complimentary and alternative nutrition. The second focus is health care and nutrition policy and integration of nutrition therapy into the medical system and business policy.

Nan has a Bachelor's degree in nutrition from the University of Tennessee, and a Master's degree in nutrition from Tufts University. She completed her dietetic internship at Frances Stern Nutrition Center of New England Medical Center Hospital in Boston. She has completed four years of study in Sacred Healing using Kabbalistic theories at the School of Healing Arts in Nashville.

Nine Characteristics of Intuitive Eating:

It varies from person to person. Because our tastes, bodies, activities, emotions, and spiritual paths are different, what our bodies require in terms of nourishment also differs.

It is cyclical. Weekly, monthly, and annual cycles, even life cycles, change our body's need for, and responses to, food.

It is imperfect. Intuitive eating does not mean we'll always choose absolutely "healthy" or "pristine" foods. We won't always feel as if we've had a "perfect" balance.

It is rhythmic. We feel pleasantly full (but not stuffed) after a meal and pleasantly hungry (but not starving) before the next.

It includes a wide variety of foods. Cereals and grains, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, meats, beans, nuts, and even fats play a role in normal, intuitive eating. Again, the exact balance and variety of foods must be individualized.

It is free of obsession. It acknowledges that our compulsions are due to biochemical or emotional reasons and any over- or under-eating is a clue to begin looking further as an opportunity for learning.

It is nourishing to the body and spirit.

It feels good. Good food in the right amounts and at the right times excites the senses. It provides tactile and taste sensations as we eat, and a pleasurable "full" feeling afterward. When we finish a meal, we feel comforted and renewed-physically, emotionally, and even spiritually.

It is an essential component of self care. What better way to nurture ourselves than with the foods we need and enjoy in the amounts we require?

I myself have went through a program called weigh down.It was the best thing i could have done.I was just about 15lbs or so over weight. This is the first time I have ever heard anyone else talk about this eating when hungry and quitting when full.I was excited when I read about your book over the internet.I hope that people will benifit from your book as I have from weigh down.People need to learn to replace their head hunger with a relationship with their Lord. Thank You, Rhonda
