Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Schreiber takes on werewolves with the same light, romantic emphasis of her Vampire Kisses titles. The Full Moon series follows the misadventures of Celeste and Brandon, star-crossed lovers from different social sets. In the second title, Magic of the Moonlight (2011), high-school student Celeste realized that she was in love with gorgeous Brandon, despite his address and lycanthropic tendencies. Brandon’s scientist father came up with an antidote to cure his son, but both teens were ambivalent about his taking it, relishing the physicality of the werewolf form. Full Moon Kisses pits Celeste and Brandon against a neighboring werewolf pack intent on turning Celeste into a werewolf as a mate for the attractive bad-boy leader. There’s very little subtlety, character development, or gore in this series, but that’s exactly what will attract readers. It’s comfort food, formulaic and dependable, and for middle-school paranormal romance readers, it’s irresistible. The cover photo of a young blonde girl with slightly parted lips and silhouettes of tree limbs perfectly communicates the content: this is a girl’s romantic fantasy. It’s really not about the werewolf! Grades 7-10. --Debbie Carton

From the Back Cover

Beware of the full moon.

A werewolf wants to take you into his world. Forever.

Celeste and Brandon know that Nash in werewolf form is bad news. But a new prediction from psychic Dr. Meadows has Celeste wondering: Which of them wants to turn her into a werewolf?

Still on Celeste's and Brandon's minds is the "cure" from Brandon's father. Brandon must face one dilemma he hadn't anticipated—if his dad's serum really does work, is he willing to give up being a werewolf for good? Is Celeste willing to give up her heroic werewolf boyfriend? And when Nash finds out there's a cure, will he try to take it from Brandon as they continue to deal with their rivalry, their competing affections for Celeste, and their struggles with their werewolf identities?

Then things grow still more complicated when a gang of sketchy guys from a neigh-boring town comes to Legend's Run just before the big Werewolf Festival. What, or whom, are they looking for?

The third installment in the sumptuous series about werewolves and the popular girl who loves one is full of danger, mystery, and undeniably romantic full moon kisses.

Celeste and Brandon, the cutest couple is in the woods talking and just being lovely. The following day they are in school when Nash grabs Celeste and asks her to help him out with the whole werewolf thing, she says that she will try to help him and let Brandon know so they can all talk. Later she lets Brandon know about what happened and made sure she didint tell Nash about the cure that Brandons dad sent him. After that they went through the day like anyother. Having lunch with the crew and Nash is making way to many inside jokes and it gets Celeste annyoed that she has to give him a look to stop. Things then change to the topic of the zoo. They are all going on a school trip to the zoo, where things get strange and heroic. At the zoo all the animals act strange everytime Nash and Brandon show up, looks like thier wolfness is sensed by them. Days go by and things are as normal as can be. Brandon and Celeste talk more about the cure and they decided that Nash should take the first dose. Plus Brandons dad was on his way to visit anf Brandon can explain things and get another dose made. At the news of the cure Nash is excited and grateful at Brandon for letting him go first. Nash does get annyoing though, he begs Celeset to see Dr. Meadows then continues to get Celeste to be with him. Meanwhile Brandon and Celeste are eating dinner and waiting for his dad to arrive. When he does arrive they all talk and Brandon explains about the cure, he is understanding and will make another cure for Brandon. Only thing is, when he tested the cure there was 5 mice and only one didn't become normal. Even with this news they will still try. During the days leading up to the full moon, new guys show up and they follow the girls around.Read more ›

I felt kind of disappointed with how this book ended. I totally saw everything that was going to happen coming way before. I pretty much guessed the entire book after almost chapter one.

Celeste Parker's life is becoming more and more complicated. Celeste and Brandon are becoming closer and closer. While they still have the cure Celeste isn't sure she wants Brandon to give up his wolfy heroic side. Especially not after he saves a kid who falls in the wolf den at the zoo on a field trip. Brandon'd positive the cure is what he wants most of all, to be normal.

Too bad Celeste's ex boyfriend Nash is all but outing himself as a werewolf and is ticked off at Brandon for being everything he's not. When Celeste finally tells him there's a cure he is all but jumping down Brandon's and Celeste's throats with it.

When a group of boys who Celeste is sure are werewolves looking for mates she asks Nash to postpone on the cure for at least a bit longer. When the decision is made Celeste and Brandon realize they may be on their own and Brandon will do whatever it takes to keep Celeste safe, even if it means never taking the cure.

Like I said this book was way to predictable for me and while I still love all the characters I thought it was way too short to be anything amazing.

I love paranormal books - werewolves, vampires, coyote shapeshifters - you name it. I also am normally not into a lot of description. A good story doesn't have to be lyrical throughout to be well told. Still - would stringing together a few words to create even a little atmosphere be too much to ask? Perhaps I'm being too hard on this author. Her characters are likeable enough. The problem is that the characters and the world she puts them in are so underdeveloped that it's like the equivalent of watching a black and white movie.

See lines like this: "It was warm outside and I wasn't in the mood for something hot..." She does a lot of telling us rather than showing us things, and the same goes for her characters.

Celeste's inner dialogue gets tiresome quickly because the author portrays Celeste as preoccupied with her own anxieties and only selectively observant of the world around her. As a character she just comes off as...you could almost say two-dimensional. I feel like this writer needs to pick it up a notch. No more lazy descriptions and halfhearted characterization. Don't be afraid to use a few big words once in a while.
