The violin and case where very nice. The case has a soft side gig bag feel, but it has a solid protective inside. The violin is a very well made starter violin,, but the paint job was not what I expected. I was looking forward to seeing a metallic/ electric purple finish, but what I got was a very flat plumy/ moave looking color. I hope that this review helps.

I would have given this 5 stars except for the fact that in less that a week of use a string broke so I had to have it replaced. No biggie, I'll probably go back and replace the rest of the strings (I would have done so already but my local music shop was out of the sets). I didn't expect a top end piece for the price but my daughter absolutely loves this violin and was dying to go back to school after the winter break to show it off! Also, I was just told by my daughter that we'll need to replace the bow it is hard to tighten properly to produce the correct sounds. But all in all I would by it again.

I play violin for a major European orchestra that is steeped in tradition, and you can be sure that playing on metallic purple violins is not one of them. Though our concert hall and seemingly most of our patrons are over one hundred years old, I always try to bring some levity to our otherwise very straight-laced and occasionally stuffy concerts. I am known as something of a practical joker, like the one time I replaced our conductor's regular baton with an exploding one, or when I put live snakes inside the French horns, or, my favorite, when I wrote in extra notes to a Beethoven symphony with disappearing ink.So far, my antics have mostly been met with a few guffaws and disapproving tsks, so I decided needed a bolder show of my iconaclastism and brought in this metallic purple violin to a concert attended by the Royal Prince. Boy oh boy, you should have seen the conductor! His face grew redder and redder and I thought his head would surely explode! Luckily for me, my uncle is on the orchestra's board of directors, so I wasn't worried about getting canned. At the post-concert reception, the Prince congratulated all of us on a fine performance, and quite unexpectedly announced, in a very loud voice, that he thought my metallic purple violin was the best thing he had witnessed at a concert his entire life! You should have seen the jealous looks from the other violinists! It happened slowly, with a few players following my lead, and then eventually all of the first and second violins switched to playing metallic purple violins. The violists, cellists, and bassists complained to the conductor, but everyone knew they were just mad because they couldn't also get metallic purple instruments. Our sound quality has suffered--one cannot expect a metallic purple violin to compete with violins crafted by masters from the Stradivari and Guarneri families--but now we are known throughout the world as "the orchestra with the metallic purple violins", and all our concerts and subscriptions have sold out! The orchestra directors forced the conductor to make me concertmaster, even with my spiked purple hair! How wonderful is it that my original little joke has now become our orchestra's newest tradition! So for all you young musicians out there, if you practice hard and have a wicked good sense of humor, you too can start a new tradition at a major symphony orchestra! |
