Student-grade violoin, February 20, 2009

First of all, the violin is not really red, certainly not the red of the photo. I would call it orange-red, and it is metallic. Secondly, it has the tone of a $50 violin -- good to buy the child who is just starting out and may never take more than 9 or 10 lessons. You truly get what you pay for. The construction itself is good, and asthetically it is pretty. The bow is just a basic bow, and the case is just glorified thick foam covered on the outside with canvas and the inside with crushed velvet.
Overall...for the money, it is worth it. If you want amazing sound, then you'll need to spend more, but the fashion color itself is enough to at least entice a kid to try a few lessons, and if they don't take to it, you didn't lose much in investment!
