Good lord, I had no idea so much light could come out of a single light socket. You will be utterly amazed by this thing. It's like having daylight in the middle of the room; I seriously sometimes forget that it's nighttime.

This is a perfect choice for those areas that never have enough light in the evening. You know when you are trying to read something or you are trying to work on something like connecting wires to electronics & it is difficult to read the labeling on the back of the PC or stereo so you have to use a flashlight? Not with this bulb! Flashlights are embarrassed in this bulb's prescence. My flashlights are now in therapy to recover from their disappointment & inadequecy in this room now. (I am serious.)

Living 1 block from a small airport requires me to choose wisely when to turn this light on so that small aircraft don't think it is an airport beacon and try to land in our yard. Oh, you don't believe that, do you? Well, this thing is WONDERFULLY BRIGHT. It is quiet with no hum. It is in a floor lamp with a lamp shade in a small bedroom that is used as a den for the PC, Xbox 360, & toy room for our grandchildren. Colors are correct & everything is illuminated JUST RIGHT. They play with toys that they can now see as they should. I leave it off early in the morning when it is dark outside when I first wake up. "My eyes, my eyes!" However, it is perfect to light everything up the rest of the day and evening. Exactly what I wanted. (If I get a second one I can duplicate the effect of having the Sun in this room without all the heat.) Be sure to get a 14" lamp harp which I could only find at [...]

Apparently, this bulb is intended for photographers. However, if you are looking for a replacement for sunlight in your home, this is it. I have this bulb in the middle of the ceiling in a 14x16 room, and it lights it up like daytime. It's so much easier on the eyes, and doesn't have the glare like a normal bulb.

ALZO's full spectrum CFLs are the best CFLs I can find online, with CRI=91 and 5500K.
For photography lighting source, we care about two things, color temperature and color rendering index (CRI).
It's relatively easy to find a CFL satisfying color temperature requirement, but hard to find ones with good CRI.
Usually, CFL's CRI ranges between 60~82, the higher the better. I compare the pictures taken with a CRI=82 CFL and this one, the improvement is quite noticeable. In fact, the result produced by this CFL is very close to that of incandescent illumination (with the highest possible CRI=100). Because of a whiter color (5500K) and lower input power, this CFL is in some sense even better than an incandescent bulb.
One drawback is the huge size of it. Make sure it can fit in your lighting kit before buying it. Another one is the thin bubble wrap in the packaging, it may not provide sufficient protection.

The Good:
- PRICE!
- Very accurate 5500k
- Better light for my needs than 2x 225 watt lights
- Cooler than regular 400 watt filming lights

The Not So Good:
- Size (see video)
- Hard to tell if the bulb is bottomed out in socket
- Can be difficult to use with umbrellas
- Mine had some solder on the bulb I had to remove

Even with my not so good items, for the price and color accuracy of the bulbs I got, this is a 5 star item and I will definitely buy them again.

I moved up North after almost 20 years down in the sun belt. When Fall happened I started feeling very depressed and miserable. I kept asking "Where is the Sun? When is it going to come out?" It got to the point I didn't recognize myself anymore. I read about SAD (S.A.D) and the light boxes. These seemed goofy and I didn't want to be chained to a box, but in reading about the yellow versus full spectrum lights I realized the science behind the condition and it is sound. I bought these lights from Alzo in the 27W, 45W, and 85W varieties. The 27W is plenty good, the 45W is better, but the 85W makes the entire room my own personal sun belt. The first day I noticed and instant difference. Just having them on in the morning while I am getting ready for the day is enough. I am awake and alert and happy for the rest of the day and I sleep like a baby so long as I don't have them on a few hours before I go to sleep. Purely Amazing. They are bright when they turn on and it takes about a minute for them to warm up and become super bright. Even with the December full noon sun shining through the window can't overpower the light cast out by my personal sun.

This light is AMAZING. I bought this light for my large collection of indoor tropical plants, and surprisingly it not only lit up all my plants, but my entire room. As everyone has mentioned here the size of this bulb is by far extra large, but also the amount of light it emits is impressive.

I had purchased a LED light along with this bulb since LED lights do not provide any warmth. Even though this single bulb has managed to light up all my 30 plants I still used the LED light considering the benefits of using LED. Either way being able to proved so many plants indoors at such a low price is unreal.

The headline says it all. I have it on a timer to go on 20 minutes before I wake up. I did make the mistake of using it in the evenings because it's great for reading too, but I soon realized it was too bright for evening use and was affecting my circadian rhythm.

Only negative: it's huge. The size of a champagne bottle, so trying to fit it in a normal light fixture was out of the question. I have it in a floodlight reflector and stand (a little precarious, but it works). If the bulb/light is in my direct line of vision, even peripheral, it's bothersome; maybe I need to try it with an umbrella.

5 months so far & going strong!!

Great for your Indoor Plants!
I finally found a nice, bright bulb for my indoor plants that lasts a long time and is energy efficient. I have them on for about 10-12 hours a day and so far they have lasted 5 Months!!
These are worth the money. It's so nice to have the Sun inside during the Winter months.

UPDATE: Nov. 20,2013 - After 13 months - 10/12 hours a day still going strong.
My Plant room is Bright and thriving all year round.

I read multiple reviews that said it was big but I didn't quite understand what that meant until I saw it. I laughed out loud when I opened the box - it's huge but works exactly as expected and is incredibly bright. Right now it's providing some extra light for my lemon tree - not sure what I will do with it next but it sure can light up a room!
