Subtle but good additions to the game concept., April 19, 2006

This review is from: Full Spectrum Warrior: 10 Hammers for PlayStation 2 (Video Game)
First of all, for those who are new to the series, Full Spectrum Warrior is not a 3rd person action game. It is a Tactical / Strategy game renderd in 3rd person. The first game was quite revolutionary. It was critically acclaimed for it's uniqueness but actually got a "HIT or MISS" type of success in the market. "HIT or MISS" means that it's either you will LIKE this game or HATE it.
Story Line:
The sequel, Ten Hammers, follows the story of the first one. The first game was about the first few hours of the US invasion of a fictional country called Zekistan. This game continues where the US occupation is hinderded by insurgents. Sounds familiar?
Whats New:
The developers kept the game very similar from the first. Graphics are the same and I sometimes feel that the character animations became worse. But there are many new additions that livens up the game a bit.
1) A whole new set of commands. Holding the Circle, X, and Square buttons will lead to more Cover, Movement, and Fire commands respectively.
2) You can command vehicles.
3) You can split your 4-man fireteam in to two autonomous units.
4) Enemy insurgents respawn via hideouts.
5) You can command the other fireteam without physically switching to them.
6) You can occupy buildings and take advantage of the view.
7) You can play as insurgents in multiplayer, which utilizes different tactics. Instead of commanding fire teams with coordinated tactics, you command individual insurgents and form losely coordinated groups. You can also recruit civilians and hide in hideouts.
Of course this game is not for everyone. I believe this game will cater to those who really liked and mastered the first one and wants to play a game that is more flexible. For people who are new to the series, I suggest you should play the first one. For those who hated, got bored, or had a hard time playing the first one, then this game is not for you (since nothing much has changed and the game even became more complex).
