3.0 out of 5 stars What happened
I am a huge, huge fan of this author. But this book just did not do it for me. It felt disjointed and not nearly as cute as the previous ones.

I did not get into the storyline and did not care about any of the characters. This one is a pass although I will buy the next Wendy French.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just verbal diarrhea, February 21, 2008

Lauren's greatest flaw is her acid tongue and penchant for verbal diarrhea. After breaking off her engagement and wallowing in a six-month pity party, she discovers that the great aunt she has not seen in over a decade has left her a fully furnished house. Originally intending to sell it, she instead decides to live in it, and soon discovers that he free gift is actually a money pit in need of costly repairs, along with an assortment of eccentric neighbors, particularly elderly Patty who helps her to recall the aunt she barely remembers, and Patty's orphaned grandson, who soon takes a shine to Lauren, bringing out the inner-nurturer in her. A new romance with hunky taxidermist Ethan helps pass the time when her mouth gets away from her and alienates her from her best friend. How long can she keep it in check before she pushes Ethan away too?

French's humorous chick lit romance is pretty funny, though readers will want to put a muzzle on Lauren after awhile (particularly her interactions with her brother Tim). It's no wonder her folks relocated to Florida! French has a knack for dialogue and that is what makes this an above average story.

Full of It is just that. It's full of wonderful characters that you just grow to love. It's full of moments that make you laugh and smile. It's full of happiness, pain, heartache, love and emotional growth. It's a book that anyone can and should enjoy. I enjoyed it so much and didn't want to put it down. I finished it in a day!

After reading all of Wendy French's book, I'm really looking forward to her next one too!

1.0 out of 5 stars This got published?, May 7, 2008
This review is from: Full of It (Paperback)
The plot introduces problems and then ignores them or wraps them up in five words or less in a tacked-on epilogue. And the parts of the plot that are emphasized are introduced in the book so that it feels like the reader has missed the first two acts of a three-act play. It had potential, but was either never fully written and suffered from an editor with a heavy-handed pen. Sadly for the book, the editor did not think to correct simple but glaringly obvious mistakes in grammar. At one point, the heroine's mother states that one of the heroine's actions "took your father and I by surprise." How can something possibly "take I" or "took I" by surprise? In the next book, we'll probably be told many things that should stay "between you and I." It is not good when the most memorable thing about the book is the grammar, or lack thereof. Sadly, this isn't the only book or publisher where this element of grammar suffers. I blame reality television. I've yet to see a contestant who knows what pronoun to use when, but the problem is spreading and publishers like this aren't helping to correct it.
