Very heavy, very awesome!,

This incredibly heavy album really gets your blood pumping. It has the heavy sludge-chug of Houdini era Melvins, but with that added dash of evil. It is definitely in my top 5 albums from 2010. I would recommend it if you like High on Fire, Melvins, Bongzilla, and Leviathan era Mastodon.

Great sludgey bass-heavy metal. Vocals and guitar are a little low in the mix but it works cause the thick distorted bass heavy riffs flood this album has nice slow leads and deep rough vox. For fans of Rwake, old mastadon, Eyehategod, Weedeater, Bongzilla, Crowbar, and anything with big harry balls.

I bought this when it was on sale for $5 just kind of liking it. But the more I listen to it the more I dig it. Doomy, proggy, Mastondonish, Black Metalish. Just crushing all the way around. And the album title? How could you be any more metal? None, you could be none more metal.

I spotted this album in a number of top 10 lists for 2010 so decided to pick it up for the ridiculously low sale price on Amazon. After a few days listen, I concur--this album is one of the top metal releases of 2010. Sonically, Howl fits comfortably in the realm of High on Fire, not to mention early Mastodon and similar sludgemeisters. What elevates Howl to the top are the riffs, the hooks, and the pacing; they know when to pummel and when to open up and let the music breath. The vocals are more of a death growl that perfectly fits the sound they are pursuing. Some of the down-tempos also remind me of classic death metal of old. The overall effect is an album with broad appeal. Whatever sub-sub-genre of metal you are into, you will find something to appreciate in this album.
