Suffering You,
By Herbert West (The Rabbit Hole) - See all my reviews
This review is from: FullBlackHabit (Audio CD)
Talk about a comeback record. FullBlackHabit quite literally picks up where SuperCoolNothing left off. Although, this album is much much MUCH louder! The guitar riffs are nothing you havent heard before, but just like the last album, they fit the music perfectly. Loads of awesome Coldwave goodness from the break-beats, to the electronic blips and beeps and the uniquely dark vocals. The whole feel of this album is just cool as hell. Really cant add too much more than the last several folks have. If you like 16 Volt this is essential, no way around that. Industrial fans need this record. Best played REALLY loud. Highlights include Cables & Wires, Suffering You, and The Defect People, but the whole record is insanely good and worth repeated listens. Hell even Steve White of KMFDM/Pig and Paul Raven of Killing Joke/Ministry made their way on this record. For 16 Volt fans and HARD-hitting industrial in general

Destined to be a classic.,
This review is from: FullBlackHabit (Audio CD)
With all of the stagnation of music over the past 10 years, it is absolutely refreshing to hear something new and powerful. This disc is an incredible journey through Heaven and Hell - the dark side and the sun peeking through the clouds. A glimmer of hope at the throes of chaos and suicide.
This record has changed my life. I've not had an album move me so much since NIN's The Downward Spiral, which, I feel, this record is AT LEAST on par with (and that's not something to be taken lightly). This is absolutely, positively, 16Volt's best work to date. I would venture to say that this may be the album of 2007, and quite possibly, the best album I have heard this decade. Honestly, I was about to give up. THANK YOU FOR SAVING MUSIC.

Best 16V yet!!!,
This review is from: FullBlackHabit (Audio CD)
This album is by far the best 16Volt to date, it has it all, slow & moody tracks, lots of electronics, plenty of metal aspects. Old school industrial with a completely new twist. There isn't one song on this album I can think of that doesn't have a catch to it leaving it stuck in my head for days. Great lyrics as well, one of Metropolis records finest. Highly recomended, one of the best for 2007 for sure.

Genius,
This review is from: FullBlackHabit (Audio CD)
After reading all the other reviews of this album I can do nothing but agree.
This is just an amazing piece of art. Imagine my surprise browsing through my local shop. "Wow, a new 16 Volt" I thought to myself. Little did I know this CD would find a permanent place in my player. The songs are loud when they need to be, soft at times (in that distincly 16 Volt way), and throughout the album they grab on to your emotions and take you for a ride. Amazing!!!

Holy crap! I was not expecting this to be so good. Not even one single song sucks. This is one of the best industrial metal records ever fricken made. This thing hits hard and punches you in the face! The guitars and the electronics work perfectly together and Eric Powell's vocals are clear and dressed up exactly right. This is definitly their best record. Jeez, is it possible to make this rating any higher? If your any kind of a rivethead worth your salt, you allready own this album. Amazing!

Worth the wait!,
This review is from: FullBlackHabit (Audio CD)
I thought 16Volt were no more, so when I saw a new album out I most certainly had to buy it. I just got it and let me say WOW! It was SO worth the wait. It truly is thier best work yet. So many good songs on this one. And the album in full flows almost perfectly from to song. I really dig the vocals too, obscure yet very catchy and sometimes soothing. I find it actually amazing that an old skool industrial band still has what it takes to stand above the rest. Blows away the newest NIN in my opinion. Great stuff!!!

He's back...finally!,

After making us wait almost 10 years, Eric Powell is back with a new album from 16volt! I have to admit that I only recently discovered this album even though it was released in 2007. It is an excellent follow-up to supercoolnothing, and I'm happy to say that 16volt has lost nothing during the hiatus. fullblackhabit contains the same guitar heavy, dense industrial music that we've come to expect from 16volt, but adding some of the melodic, atmospheric type of industrial that they played earlier in their career. If you are a 16volt fan already, buy this album! You will not be disappointed. Now let's hope that they don't make us wait another decade for another disc!

Sometimes I am surprised by a band in a good way and sometimes I find myself searching out the repeat button because something assails my brain in a sexy manner. This is a rare thing, mind you, and more often it seems like "skip track" should be at least a percentage of title names. I am happy to report that 16volt was one of the repeat button albums, however, and that I have found myself addicted to this current offering by the now-Metropolis act.
When commenting on 16Volt, this isn't to say I didn't expect great things. While I expected something good, however, I didn't expected 16Volt to produce something with so much connectivity. First and foremost, the songs themselves do not get old because they have high highs and low lows and beautiful amounts of voxing in-between. When listening to the vocals I kept thinking that they peel at just the right layers along the audio ceilings and walls, when the beats kicked in and began to line up I noted everything from melodically-transfixing (The End of it All and Afterglow) to notes writhing with lifespans all their own (Fell It Through), and all of this was coming from a band that I wasn't sure about after the little break they took in their musical lifespan. While I am reviewing I realize that this is nothing more than an opinion, and know that some people need more than the thoughts of others. So, if you are in need of convincing, be sure to sample the wares provided by Amazon, to check out 16Volt's homefront by going to Metropolis-records, and look into all the little extras the band has to offer by looking at their homepage. I would give this album a constellation of stars if it would let me but, in the end, I hope five says you really should at least give them a chance. You won't be disappointed. |
