A DELIGHT FOR LUCY FANATICS.,
This review is from: The Fuller Brush Girl [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Made just before her foray into television immortality, Lucy plays Sally Elliot, a door-to-door salesgirl who gets herself unintentionally involved with murder. Taking along her boyfriend Humphrey (Eddie Albert), Sally has to escape the police and gets herself into some hilarious situations...Seemingly but only coincidentally, This little Columbia flick from 1950 seems like a primer for Ball's Lucy Ricardo character as it showcases Lucy in lots of slapstick, chases and other great comic bits which were to become her specialty. Eddie Albert is fine as her not-too-bright beau and Red Skelton makes a token appearance here as an inside joke in reference to his own film THE FULLER BRUSH MAN (1949), a very funny entry which co-starred Janet Blair.

Lucy, Lucy, Lucy!,

I've been a huge fan of Lucille Ball for six years (I'm almost 14 by the way) and I will be for the rest of my life. This is one of my all-time favorite Lucy movies. It's a great way to get laughs the old-fashioned way--without any "PG-13" or "R" printed on the box. I love the way Lucy does the drunk scene in this one. And those stupid parrots are a riot (anyone who's seen this movie before knows what I'm talking about)! I truly recommend this video for kids, adults, Lucy Lovers, history fanatics---anyone who wants a good laugh.

Lucille Ball Shines in a Hilarious Farce,

This review is from: The Fuller Brush Girl [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was one of Lucille Ball's last theatrical films prior to the debut of "I Love Lucy", and from the looks of things it was the final primer for her role as Lucy Ricardo. "The Fuller Brush Girl" was filmed in 1950 as a sequel to the very popular "The Fuller Brush Man", which starred Lucille's male counterpart, Red Skelton. It's the story of a young couple, Kathleen and Humphrey, who just want to get married, buy a house and live happily ever after. But about the time they think they can put a down payment on their dream house, Kathleen causes a hugh electrical fire at the shipping company where she and Humphrey work and loses her job. Undaunted she decides to try door-to-door sales as a Fuller Brush Girl (she actually sells cosemtics, not brushes). Meanwhile back at the shipping company Humphrey is promoted to shipping manager, only he dosen't realize that he is being set-up as the fall guy by a smuggling ring. Through a hilarious set of circumstances the bumbling Fuller Brush Girl and the smuggling ring get mixed-up with each other and all hell breaks loose. In the ensuing tangle, there is murder, mayheim, police chases, a very funny striptease and some of the funniest sight-gags ever put on film. The cast includes a very young Eddie Albert as Humphrey, Jeff Donnell as Kathleen's best friend and a who's Who cast of character actors. The production values on this film are "B" quality at best but they actually help make this film really easy to watch. As a trivia note, the musical number in the film "Put The Blame On Mame" was the same recording used to dub Rita Hayworth's voice in the film "Gilda".

This movie is like The Naked Gun movie, but in 1950! I could not believe how funny and different it was compared to all of the dramatic movies before it during that era. This movie kept my whole family laughing throughtout the entire video. This is definitely worth buying!!!!!!

A Preview of "Lucy Lunacy",

This review is from: The Fuller Brush Girl [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Not a classic comedy in any sense of the word, this film is noteworthy for its zaniness and comedic excellence of the one-and-only Miss Ball. The end "chase" is so hilarious, actually reminiscent of a Three Stooges-bit, only FUNNY, that I was simultaneously laughing and crying.

This is your typical Lucille Ball. She is a terrific actress and comedianne. I agree with other reviewers, put this on DVD! The movie is a bit slow at first, but gets better and better as it progresses. My favorite part is when they are on the ship with the diamonds, except for the banana spiders... You will not be disappointed with this one if you love Lucy. It's just another testament to Lucy's prowess to dominate the comedy world.

Through out this whole movie it's a riot! Lucy's slapstick abilities really helped her with the role. And when she gives those ladies the home permanates HYSTERICAL! A must see for anybody...if they love Lucy as much as I do or not!

A Very Funny 'Unknown' Lucille Ball Movie,
By
This review is from: The Fuller Brush Girl [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was a nice surprise. I didn't know what to expect, but what I got was a lot of laughs. Sure, many of the gags were simple slapstick stuff but it worked. This was truly a funny movie and Lucille Ball and Eddie Albert made a great pair.
This film also was a good preview of what audiences were going to see down the road when Ball became super-famous on television. She plays a similar type of character: a well-meaning ditz who gets into one jam after another. Here, she winds up an innocent victim and has gangsters chasing her and Albert all over town. I only wish this was out on DVD or even on a good (and cheaper) VHS tape in the United States. Many people have never heard of this film. It's worth seeing and owning, believe me.

This was a great Lucille Ball movie and I love Lucille Ball. I wish they would show it on TV or make it into a DVD. The only problem was that the ending was disappointing. It just left the viewer hanging. However, I did enjoy it and would love to purchase it in DVD.
