Book Description

August 21, 2007
Ed and Al come face to face with the "father" of the homunculi, who just so happens to be a dead ringer for their own father, Van Hohenheim--a resemblance too uncanny for coincidence. And later, when the allure of immortality proves to be too much for Prince Lin of Xin, he lets Greed take over...literally!

4.0 out of 5 stars Many questions, August 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 14 (Paperback)
Lin allows Greed to take over his body and becomes a "human based" homonculus. Ed and Al learn the truth about King Bradley, but Bradley forces Ed to continue to work for the military by threatening Winry.

What's the connection between the "Father" of the homonculi and Hohenheim? Why does a female military officer have a very intricate alchemical tattoo on her back? What's the master plan of the homonculi? Only time will tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars They are in way over their head., December 2, 2010
This review is from: Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 14 (Paperback)
In volume 14 the arrogance and greed of several of the main characters lands them all in way over their head. Colonel Mustang has discovered that the entire upper echelons of the military is complicit in the Fuhrer being a homunculus, what he thought was a winning hand turned out to be no where close and when he showed his cards he got his crew taken from him and split up, each sent in a different direction to the far corners of Amestris.

Ed got himself and Lin the prince of Xin swallowed whole by the homunculus Gluttony. The price he paid to free them is one he is still reeling from as it is one he swore he would never allow himself to pay. And, of course the end result was landing right in the middle of the homunculus' lair and face to face with their "father" a being with a face entirely too similar to their own father.

We learn a lot more about the homunculi, how they are formed when human based and when not, how they die, and a great deal about the extent of their powers. Unfortunately I think all of the characters bit off more than they could chew in this volume and the last and are now and will be dealing with the ramifications of that for some time to come. Whether they will recover or not or have to deal with their new limitations and losses remains to be seen. The only positive thing in the whole volume was finally one small light at the end of the tunnel for Ed and Al, but I will let you discover that for yourselves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff, continued., March 10, 2008
This review is from: Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 14 (Paperback)
Hiromu Arakawa, Fullmetal Alchemist, vol. 14 (ViZ, 2006)

Arakawa kind of pulls the sucker punch at the end of vol. 13, when we finally meet the homunculus leader, but things quickly turn interesting when the prince, tempted by the idea of immortality, allows Greed to take over his body. Things are certainly getting interesting in the world of FMA. Series is as strong as ever, perhaps stronger. ****
