About the Author

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834–1892), the "Prince of Preachers," preached his first sermon at age sixteen and became a pastor at age eighteen. Spurgeon drew large crowds and built the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London in 1861 to accommodate them. He published over two thousand sermons; his inspiring and challenging messages comprise the largest collection of work by a single author. Spurgeon preached to an estimated ten million people during his lifetime, including notables such as the prime minister of England, members of the royal family, and Florence Nightingale. He appealed constantly to his hearers to move on in the Christian faith, to allow the Lord to minister to them individually, and to be used of God to win the lost to Christ. In addition to his powerful preaching, Spurgeon founded and supported charitable outreaches, including educational institutions. His pastors' college, which is still in existence today, taught nearly nine hundred students in Spurgeon's time. He also founded the famous Stockwell Orphanage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spurgeon on Joy, April 16, 2010
This review is from: Fullness Of Joy (Paperback)
Is there an absence of joy in your life? Do you lack wonderment of the soul? Do you miss embracing daily delights in your mortal life? If you answered yes to any of the aforementioned questions then "The Fullness of Joy," by Charles Spurgeon is an inspiring solution.

One should have real joy if one ponders the gospel as Spurgeon notes: "The heart of the gospel is redemption, and the essence of redemption is the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ" (C.H. Spurgeon).

That the believer is forgiven, accepted, redeemed, and forever loved by God through the cross should promote a robust joy and gladdening of one's heart.

Chapters consist of:

- Thanksgiving to the Father

- Jesus, our Holy Praise

- Marvelous Things

- A Harp of Ten Strings

- And more.

Spurgeon added: "There is something marvelous in the joy that we, who have believed in victory secured by Christ, received" (p. 77).

Great sermons (yes great is appropriate) that serve as wonderful devotional material and a means to stir one's heart towards God as you live in lively joy because of all Christ has done for you.

Also see a book that demonstrates the existence of God by employing moral absolutes:
