Great Declaration of Independence from Corporate Stuffiness,
By Maura A. Sweeney (Tampa Bay, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fun Is Good: How to Create Joy and Passion in Your Workplace and Career (Paperback)
If there were a Declaration of Independence from Corporate Stuffiness, then I'd be one of its original signers. And if the movement required a manifesto, then Mike Veeck's Fun is Good would serve as its clarion call. From start to finish, this book is filled with heart, humor and authenticity. Weaving his own highly entertaining baseball tales with guest narratives from similar-minded corporate leaders, Mike culminates each chapter with summaries and action items that make applying FUN in the workplace a relative "no brainer". As someone who employed Mike's philosophy in my previous career and now lives it full-time as co-creator of an irreverent talking microphone and cartoon sports announcer, I can tell you it absolutely works! Kudos to Mike Veeck and co-author Pete Williams for this witty, engaging and inspiring literary gift to a bored and burnt-out working public.
Recommended as a great corporate business gift.

I really enjoy reading books like this. Mike Veeck is a guy who paved the way for creative thinking and "fun" marketing. His stories and insights are valuable for ALL businesses, not just sports. You will walk away from this book with the understanding that if you can just put some fun into your business, you'll be more successful. This book was a fun, quick read, and very inspiring. You will enjoy it.

Great Change of Pace,

This review is from: Fun Is Good: How to Create Joy and Passion in Your Workplace and Career (Paperback)
This book is a great change of pace from the usual management book. It emphasizes the value of fun in the workplace as a way to keep creative juices flowing and energy high.
Veeck is the son of legendary baseball operator Bill Veeck, and had his own up and down and up career in baseball. The book is not heavy on baseball anecdotes, but it does provide unique lessons for sports management. Not every workplace is as conducive to a focus on fun every day, but there are important lessons here for anyone about valuing people and caring about your job.

Casual Business How-To Book Injects Fun into Work,
By
This review is from: Fun Is Good: How to Create Joy and Passion in Your Workplace and Career (Paperback)
Entertaining and funny, Mike Veeck provides passionate advice in achieving the "Fun Is Good" philosophy in the workplace. Fun is Good outlines Veeck's on and off career in minor league baseball and how the philosophy evolved his career to what it is today. Senior level executives from national companies and organizations share stories of relevant applications of the Fun is Good philosophy. Also, the summaries and exercises assist with tying in the points made in each chapter. The suggestions on how to integrate the work philosophy into every workplace are not always realistic for every business setting, but the work hard/play hard emphasis is certainly something to apply in any environment. It was a quick, conversational read that applies a unique business philosophy in order to creating a successful, enjoyable, and productive workplace.
