We've played this game with people aged 10-65. I love how this game brings out a player's creativity and silliness and often surprises the group! My usually very serious brother put together a great song about driving in traffic and road rage and sang it to the tune of The Proclaimers "500 Miles." He had it rhyming and everything! Ha!

The point of the game is to make up your own humorous lyrics to popular songs. You get to choose from several songs each round, and a lot of different genres are covered, new and old, so there is always something you recognize. And you don't even have to know the songs that well since you make up your own words anyways.
It isn't as hard as it sounds. I ended up being surprised by my own creativity very impressed with what my friends came up with.
Everyone judges everyone else with secret scoring cards, but the point isn't to be super-competative. You end up sort of grading each person on their own curve, relative to how well they've done before, so everyone gets some good scores and some not-so-good scores.
The game can be a lot of fun at a party when the liquid courage gets flowing, people feel a little less inhibited about making up silly lyrics or singing in front of their friends. And if people want to recite their lyrics instead of sing, or only be judges, that is allowed too.
I always look forward to playing this one.

I wasn't sure about this game at first...singing in public? And in front of friends? Not just in the shower or in the car? Perhaps I am just shy, but as soon as I overcame this, it was a lot of fun! Humor and creativity beat out musical talent, since that is what this game is all about. Everyone takes a turn singing and judging at every round, it's like karaoke, but if somebody's off key - it doesn't drag on forever!! And if somebody's good, well, hey that's just a bonus!
You'll have fun, give it a try.

What's not to love?, January 13, 2009

I had the opportunity to try this game out at a party, and we had a blast playing! My sister made up a song about the presidential election to "These Words" by Natasha Bedingfield, I made up a song about my job to "Breakfast at Tiffany's", and another player made up a song about "the person next to him" (me!) to Toto's "Africa"!! You don't even have to be good at singing, or writing, this game is engaging for all skill levels, and is a total riot. Someone else who was playing remarked that the game reminded them of Apples to Apples, and I agree -- if you like that game, you're sure to love Smash or Trash!
While the game is not intentionally educational, I've noticed that the creative writing skills of my grade-school siblings have gotten sharper since they've started playing it.
The wide variety of song selections is great. The subject cards will make you laugh, and the "trash" cards will make you laugh even more. And, of course, Amazon *rocks* for carrying Smash or Trash, because it's tricky to find this game in stores. I'm glad I can buy it here!

Fun for everyone!, January 13, 2009

Smash and Trash is awesome! Each song card is set up with a such a variety of songs, you almost never get a card that doesn't have at least one song you recognize. The optional rules make it easy for anyone to play.
The quality of this product was very high, much more than I've come to expect from games lately. I ordered 3 for the 2008 holidays - one for my mother, one for my co-worker's secret santa gift, and one for myself. We all love the game! It was the perfect gift.
Fun Q Games shipped my order right away and I received it quickly. They packed it very carefully so nothing could possibly get damaged.
I recommend this game to anyone that loves music and games!

A GOOD WAY TO LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT SONGS. WHO SINGS THEM, AND HOW THEY REALLY SHOULD SOUND.
