About the Author

Christie Mellor is the Los Angeles-based author and illustrator of The Three-Martini Playdate and The Three-Martini Family Vacation. She is the mother of two children, one of whom recently left her nest.

More About the Author

While pursuing a happy life that includes an interesting husband, two almost-always pleasant children, and a neurotic duck, Christie became a vociferous cheerleader for the "other kind of parenthood," the anti-perfection, you-deserve-a-life kind. Her first book, "The Three-Martini Playdate," was a harbinger of a new trend for today's beleaguered parents, helping them to withstand the unceasing and overbearing good advice and pressure to raise perfect, highly enriched offspring,. She continued the thread with "The Three-Martini Family Vacation." Christie also likes to draw, and does so repeatedly throughout the pages of "Raised by Wolves: Clues to the Mysteries of Adulthood," out in paperback in the spring of 2010, a book designed for the adult child whose parents did NOT read "The Three Martini Playdate." Christie's rants have been published in Britain in The Guardian, Junior Magazine, and the Sunday Express, and in Australia's Sunday Life Magazine, and she's been heard on Britain's BBC radio and American Public Radio's Marketplace, in addition to being reviewed and interviewed in Newsweek, Playboy, The New York Times, People, and other publications.
"You Look Fine, Really" is due from HarperCollins in the spring of 2010. It's for the ladies. The gals. The women. Specifically women over the age of 40. And yet, it's totally girly! Christie is very excited about this one.

This book is both hysterical and helpful. Kids growing up and moving out is a rite of passage... for those parents experiencing or about to experience it... this book is a big smile with a number of good ideas on how to get the most out of ones delightfully empty nest.

What breath of fresh air! I have been walking around in full on grief mode for days. SOBBING at the very thought of waking up without my kids. I read every blog or internet article I could find on the subject, only to feel worse. I was contemplating calling in sick to work because I couldn't pick my face up. Out of desperation I thought I need a book, so off to Amazon I went looking for answers. .. The title is what caught me than the artwork after all I grew up with Dick and Jane. Nothing like a bit of nostalgia for a heavy heart. I thought this book was going to pat m on the back and hold my hand while I cried, but what I got was a healthy dose o much needed reality check. Wow.. I may have thought I wanted a book title me I was ok to be sad, sick, and money that it just meant I loved my kids like any good mother mothering thankful for this boo reminding me that I am still an individual with with a potential full rewarding life ahead of me and that although I won't need to wait up or drug carpool I am still mom at the end of the day.

I Love this book . Being as I have always encouraged my children in having a life of their own, and continuing on with ours simultaneously,I laughed until I hurt. The author and I share the same views on life after 18.
A MUST if your about to go to pesky college orientations where in reality they're just trying to sell you a one year dorm room that costs more than the car you brought that child home from the hospital in when it was new on the showroom floor.
