Amazon.com Product Description

Record your favorite television shows and treasured home videos to either high-quality, long-lasting DVD-R (write-once) and DVD-RW (rewriteable) discs with Funai's FDR90E DVD player/recorder. The recorder's built-in NTSC TV tuner and onscreen user interface permits up to 8 timer recordings over a 1-year period, with its 6 DVD recording speeds providing between 1 hour and an amazing 10 hours of content on each single-sided 4.7 GB recordable DVD. You can even select and compile the best footage to commit to disc: the recorder's handy editing features include auto playlist creation, project titling, title deletion and editing, and scene deletion.

The FDR90E's versatile playback features include progressive-scan video outputs and support of MP3 CDs so you can easily shift your digital music enjoyment from the den to the living room. A variety of video and audio inputs--including front-panel composite- and S-video connections for fast, temporary hookups--grant connection to virtually all televisions and home theater components.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the FDR90E's DVD player stands ready to deliver the full playback potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

VCR Plus+ simplifies timer recording. Other features include bookmarking, resume playback, random playback, 99-track CD programming, parental lock, screen saver, auto power off, virtual surround sound (simulates surround effects from any 2 speakers), and picture zoom (up to 2x normal).

What's in the Box
DVD recorder/player, remote control, remote batteries, an RF coaxial video cable, a composite-video/stereo analog audio cable, a user's manual, and a quick-setup guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Equipment, Bad firmware update policy, July 9, 2006

This review is from: Funai FDR90E DVD Player/Recorder (Electronics)
This DVD recorder works fine as documented. The problem is it will only write on older DVD-R and DVD-RW media which are either hard to find or expensive. The fastest DVD-R supported is 4X, DVD-RW is 2X. DVD-R rated at 8X and slower will not work. No firmware updates for faster media are planned.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUNAI FDR90E DVD PLAYER/RECORDER, September 17, 2006
This review is from: Funai FDR90E DVD Player/Recorder (Electronics)
I've had this recorder for a little over a week and it works flawlessly, including recordering on DVD-R 8x Media. I actually bought a batch of DVD-R 4x, figuring it would not work on 8x media, based on the manual and the one reviewer. However, I decided to test out an 8x and it worked just fine.

I bought this because my LiteOn LVW-5005 started to act up and fail on the finalization of discs when it was not the fault of the disc. At this early stage, I feel the Funai is a better machine. The test of time might prove otherwise, but for now that is my conclusion.
