'We aren't mummies, after all." Functional Design® Sleeping Bag Expander was created for campers who just want more room. The Expander offers comfort for people who dislike the claustrophobic feeling of a mummy bag. Great for robust individuals, nursing mothers, and snuggling with your toddler or dog.
The Expander was designed to accommodate the varying needs of bicyclists, kayakers, rock climbers, ultralight backpackers, and college students.
The Expander is available in 3-season weight, and can be used on the top or underneath your mummy bag. Couples wanting to sleep together should consider the Doubler or -for even more options-zipping two Expanders together.
Functional Design® Expander is made with a full-length 70" YKK #8 coil separating zipper, black 50 denier Ripstop Nylon, double layers of Polarguard 3D insulation with offset stitching, and built in draft tubes along the zipper. The result is a highly compressible insert that is lightweight, breathable, absorbs little moisture and retains loft even when wet. The Expander is easily stored and laundered, and is non-allergenic and mildew resistant.
IMPORTANT UPDATED Compatibility issues:
the Expander is compatible with mummy style sleeping bags made between 2000-2008 using a full-length YKK #8 coil separating zipper; this includes bags from Sierra Designs, North Face, Marmot, REI, and North Face.
After you place your order, you will receive an email with our full list of compatible sleeping bags; at this point you may choose to cancel order if your bag is not listed.
The Expander is NOT COMPATIBLE with bags which use a YKK #5 or # 10 zipper.

Don't buy a new sleeping bag,

I bought the expander on the advice of my brother. I have a mummy bag that was too small for me, and I could never get comfortable. I was looking to buy a new bag when I came across the expander. I can now roll over, and even bring my knees to my chest, and am sleeping comfortably. Much cheaper than getting myself a new bag.

I LOVE this sleeping bag expander!,

I absolutely LOVE my Sleeping Bag Expander! I have had mine for several years now, and could never go back to a plain old sleeping bag. I am a bigger guy, and used to feel way too constrained in a mummy bag. I tend to roll around at night, and it always seemed like I got tied up trying to get comfortable.
The Sleeping Bag Expander gives me just enough room to stretch out and re-adjust during the night, while still keeping me cozy and warm. I keep it zipped into my bag, and the combination packs up into about the same space as the original bag did. Don't go camping without it!

Too small,

This was too small for two of us. We fit, but it was very cramped, especially for our feet. Seems like a great idea, but it didn't work out for us.
