Book Description

January 22, 2010 1429216336 978-1429216333 Sixth Edition
Fundamentals of Abnormal Psychology helps students understand what it is really like to live with, study, and treat psychological disorders.  Combining the latest research with the actual experiences of clients, their families, and practicing therapists, Ron Comer opens the doors of this inherently fascinating field in an eye-opening, science-based, and yet human way.  Comer not only encourages students to think critically about the science and study of mental disorders—he also reveals the humanity behind them.

The new edition of Fundamentals of Abnormal Psychology incorporates new directions in theory, diagnosis, and therapy, with much new material on cultural aspects of psychological dysfunction, on “new wave” cognitive and cognitive-behavioral approaches, and on the latest relevant findings from the field of neuroscience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Condition, Excellent Text Book July 31, 2012
By Jackie
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The book arrived quickly and it was in excellent condition. It's an excellent overview of psychopathology. If you're looking for a book that covers everything in the DSM, this has a couple of omissions (Sleep Disorders for example), but the organization and presentation of the material is excellent. I also used the associated online website with the quizzes and the videos. The videos were very worthwhile. I have a couple of minor gripes about the quizzes: If you get an answer wrong, it tells you it's incorrect but it doesn't tell you what the correct answer is (or why, or where in the text book this is covered). There were a couple of questions in the quiz that I was able to find the answer to online but which I am 99.9% sure are not covered in the related text book chapter. And there are at least two answers in the quizzes that are wrong - or at least, they are inconsistent with the text book. In both cases they related to information that would have been edited in the 6th edition (such as the revised outcome of the Andrea Yates trial). I was using the book and quiz for the 6th edition so I would have expected them to be in synch. However, this is still a 5 star text book for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great overview of Abnormal Psych! February 19, 2012
By Emily
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have been very happy with this textbook. It gives an excellent overview of Abnormal Psychology, as well as providing examples to depict disorders and/or symptoms applied to real-life scenarios. It doesn't dig much into each disorder, but it still provides the reader with a thorough overview.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for my Substane Abuse Psychology class August 15, 2012
By robrjc1
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was quite in-depth on many psychological problems that affect our society. The balance between the detailed lessons and highlighted "snippets" made it an easy reading textbook. At times I felt it was not a textbook, but rather a book that certainly held my interest, while I was studying! I used it for a senior psychology class for Substance Abuse Counseling.

1.0 out of 5 stars Baaad! May 11, 2014
By Vickie
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have purchased several used books from amazon and have been very satisfied. I do understand what used means but this book was so marked up I could not use it. I spent more money because I had to purchase another book and it took a lot of work to get caught up with my class and homework. Thank goodness my instructor was understanding about the situation.
