5.0 out of 5 stars Full Spectrum of skiing from zero to hero
The Fundamentals of cross country skiing is bundled with the movie high velocity biathlon. The movie plays first, and WOW what a cool ride. Elite skiers, zooped up with rifles. Great scenery and sound tracks with lot of extras. Don't stop there.

If you bought the product for something other than fun, and entertainment... like actually learning to ski...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fundamentals of Cross Country Skiing Technique
The presentation was very fast so difficult to grasp the points without viewing again and catching info onthe fly. Otherwise OK.

If you bought the product for something other than fun, and entertainment... like actually learning to ski. Just check out the rest of the disk!

Some of the best stuff for beginners is appropriately placed in SPECIAL FEATURES. This where you will find close to an hour of superb instruction with the Fundamentals of cross country skiing. Fully narrated and perfectly performed. The target audience is beginner to intermediate. Perhaps a bit of a progression for a complete beginner. Then if you dig further into the DVD-ROM features on your computer explore for Tao of Skiing. This is a complete instructional multimedia ski tour.

I find it incredible that some of the reviewers could have missed most of the disk!!! If you can navigate around a simple DVD menu structure you will get the most out of the disk and get to what interests you the most. Personally, I loved the variety. I had some entertaining chapters to motivate me and an equal amount of instructional chapters to help me grow as a skier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent skiing and delivery, October 17, 2001
By A Customer
The fundamentals of cross country skiing technique delivers what every skier should know in a superb video. There is a lot of information crammed into 40 minutes: continuous professional narration, excellent visuals, world class skiing broken down with slow motion, and 3d modelling special effects. Highly Recommended for all levels.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I had this years ago, November 5, 2001

"The xczone technique video is excellent! The computer 3D models really give another dimension to it and with split screen images, and numerous other video techniques, a full clear instruction is possible. I loved it and only wish that I had it when I was learning how to ski!" - Sharon Donnelly, Olympian, Pan Am Gold Medalist Triathlon

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Production, November 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Fundamentals of Cross Country Skiing Technique (DVD)
"High Velocity opens with a Bond/Matrix-like biathlon segment with some incredible helicopter shots, providing some never before seen viewpoints on cross-country skiing. It's a very stylized production, showing off the strong artistic talents of McMahon and Meloche. From there, they switch to a very scenic "off the beaten path" skiing segment. Again, some wonderful helicopter shots during the peak of fall foliage really punctuate the coverage. A third segment features Subaru Factory Team skiers on beautiful mountain trails. Some incredible boot level and ski pole "cam" shots really make you feel like you're on the snow with them! The video wraps up with a preview to the 2002 Winter Olympics by featuring some racing from Soldier Hollow last season. Jaw dropping impressive classical skiing is the highlight to this piece -- you literally can't believe how fast some of the elite skiers are sprinting up steep hills. Sadly, as this segment winds down you realize the actual television coverage this winter won't even come close to this level of excitement. Overall, another great production from David McMahon and Lise Meloche." - Bruce Adelsman, skinnyski.com (reviewed VHS version)

5.0 out of 5 stars New standard for technique videos, February 17, 2003
By
A. Koss (California, USA) - See all my reviews
The fundamentals of cross-country skiing technique does a first class job of teaching nordic skiing within the limitations of a video. There is so much information here, I had to play it a dozen times.

I have many xc ski videos on my shelf. If I could have only one, I recommend this above all others.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than worth it, February 18, 2003
By
This video helped me ski substantially better then even the new pair of xc skis I got for xmas (sorry dear). And cost less than what I paid for a hot wax and tune up at the store.

The beauty about the tape is not only the first class skiing but the modern and straight to business format. "This is what you need to know."

I always disliked videos that have novice skiers, going on about how not to do it, or coaches with 101 drills (none of which relate to actual skiing). This is not one of those videos. It shows great technique and has a very well written script - very precise language. It seems that many of the experts have endorsed it, which gives me confidence.

I only wish was that it could have been longer than 50 minutes. The graphics were interesting but not as effective as the split screen and slow motion effects - just my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take the time, March 23, 2007
This review is from: Fundamentals of Cross Country Skiing Technique (DVD)
I bought this DVD to show the kids in my club and got exactly what I expected. It is a playful motivational short film and some basic instruction as a bonus special feature. There are detailed descriptions, the full script and streaming video of the whole thing from the xczone web site. So you can't make a mistake in what you are buying if you take the time.

Since people may have different needs, may I suggest:

For purely instructional material (beginner) check out the Learn to Nordic Ski DVDLearn to Nordic Ski

More advanced skiers may find Nordic Ski Technique DVD better suits their needs.Nordic Skiing Technique

If you are just after entertainment then there is Art of Nordic SkiingArt of Nordic Skiing

and for cross training mixing motivational with instruction look at Unlimited Nordic SkiingUnlimited Clean Oxygen Fed Sport (Nordic Skiing)

I have a number of these titles at the clubhouse... hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I wanted lots of technique on second half ofDVD, February 7, 2005
This review is from: Fundamentals of Cross Country Skiing Technique (DVD)
Fundamentals of Cross Country Skiing Technique with High Velocity Skiing and Biathlon DVD has two main parts.

The first is a stylized action skiing-biathlon movie which was great to get myself and the kids motivated.

The second part (found in the special features) is a 45min technique video explaining with the aid of professional narration, meticulous scripting and slow motion demonstrations by expert skiers. The instructional content is just what someone needs as an introduction to the sport and enough to grow past intermediate level. The Unlimited Nordic Skiing DVD (that I also have) takes motivation and instruction to the next level.

The previous reviewer (M.Stout) to put it politely not only "didn't read between the lines" but did not watch the complete DVD. Otherwise he would have found the "little XC ski video that shows you what good technique should look like in a wide open field, with lots of slow motion `analyse this' shots."

5.0 out of 5 stars The something that got me started in Nordic Skiing, September 22, 2003
The fundamentals by www.xczone.tv was just what I needed. The tape delivers the essential technical instruction in a clean consise way. It left me wanting more... and I wasn't disappointed this year with another release from these folks called unlimited skiing on a 4hour dvd which launches the fundamentals to a new level... now if only I could keep up.
