5.0 out of 5 stars good book for beginers
I'm a civil engineer and had to take a class in the Electrical Engineering department (with prof Lonngren). The book helped me catching up with the subjects since my background in electromag was not the same as the Electrical Engineering students. The matlab codes are good and illustrate the problems. It is a good source if you are not a specialist in the area but need...

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, November 10, 2010
This review is from: Fundamentals of Electromagnetics with MATLABĀ®, Second Edition (Hardcover)
Maybe it is the way this material is presented in class, but this book is nearly impossible to grasp. I'm a college student attempting to take an EMAGs course with this book. The book has no support group anywhere online, the CD attached is completely useless, and the problems in the end chapter aren't even problems that have examples to go off of. I don't see how anyone could viably stomach this book and call it a masterpiece worth 5 stars. There is 0 online help anywhere. The website the book recommends is not even fully functional or operational for that matter. I have found much more suitable books then this one out there. There is also a lack of MATLAB examples / solutions in this book. It claims that this is Fundamentals of Electromagnetics with MATLAB, but I see little to no use of MATLAB anywhere in this book. The book is also ridiculously tiny, which is not that great for an introductory course. A book teaching an intro course should be much longer then this one.

Buyer beware. I do not agree with any of the other reviewer's reviews. Also, I am not trying to slander this book. I just can't seem to grasp the ideas of an intro course, when I am a junior level Electrical Engineer with a 3.6 GPA.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst textbook I have ever used, May 10, 2011

This review is from: Fundamentals of Electromagnetics with MATLABĀ®, Second Edition (Hardcover)
This is one of the worst textbooks I have ever had the displeasure of using.

The format is inconsistent, sometimes "examples" are presented as derivation, so you get confused as to what the fundamental equations are.

Sometimes very fundamental equations are placed in the middle of a paragraph that would not be seen without reading through the book entirely. As any college student knows, it is VERY rare to do this. Every other textbook author has figured out to put important equations in bold or something, why didn't Lonngren?

The end of chapter problems are next to impossible to complete solely with the material presented in the chapter. There are no examples of the problems, and many of the problems are very poorly worded. To top it off, a startlingly large amount of the solutions in the back are (completely) wrong.

I find myself often wondering if Lonngren and his editors even read through this book after writing it. How can you have a second edition without doing this? Oh yeah, to rip people off.

Frankly, I think the people who rated this book highly must have received a different book. I have had lots of textbooks, many of which I have read quite a bit of. This is by FAR the worst.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fundamentals of Electromagnetics, February 14, 2011

This review is from: Fundamentals of Electromagnetics with MATLABĀ®, Second Edition (Hardcover)
This book is riddled with errors and incomplete explanations for the topics covered. It is generally example deficient for the problems given in the end of chapters. The choice of notation is odd and does not align very well with either calc 3 or physics notation. For the price tag I would hope that they could at least proof read this book better and do better that 3 color printing. This is a poor product.

5.0 out of 5 stars good book, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Fundamentals of Electromagnetics with MATLABĀ®, Second Edition (Hardcover)
I used this book during my Junior year in College. What I love about this book is the author(s) constant style. The author(s)explain every step development of the formula. The concept and the language of the book is understandable. The only drawback of this book is , ofcourse as i see is the lack of sufficient amount of examples...bottom line there should be more examples. The Matlab part is really helpful especially for the people who will choose electromagnetics as a career field, it gives a minute idea of computational electromagnetics for your graduate courses. I have seen a fair amount of books in electromagnetics but so far this my favorite. Highly recommeded for the beginners.

The book I purchased was advertised as used. Actually, it's in perfect condition; I cannot see any evidence of use. Even the CD was still sealed in its' package.

Shipping was fast, service was great.

Thanks so much!
