From the Back Cover

“Fundamentals of the Faith is the outgrowth of the belief that
the essence of Christianity is truth—the truth about God,
the truth about man, and the truth about Christ.”
—John MacArthur

Do you desire for you and your church to stand on rock solid theological doctrine? Do you want new believers to take off in their spiritual growth? Do you long to see more mature Christians equipped in evangelism and discipleship? Do you desire for your church to experience unity based on a shared understanding of God’s truth?

Then Fundamentals of the Faith is for you! This rich and easy-to-follow workbook is a resource for believers of all stages and was developed through decades of refinement by the elders, teachers, and pastors at Grace Community Church. Under the leadership of John MacArthur, this foundational material has been taught and tested in the classroom—and proven effective through the lives it has influenced.

In 13 lessons, you’ll cover these foundational truths all believers need to understand:

¿ Introduction to the Bible
¿ How to Know the Bible
¿ God: His Character and Attributes
¿ The Person of Jesus Christ
¿ The Work of Christ
¿ Salvation
¿ The Person and Ministry of the Holy Spirit
¿ Prayer and the Believer
¿ The Church: Fellowship and Worship
¿ Spiritual Gifts
¿ Evangelism and the Believer
¿ Obedience
¿ God’s Will and Guidance

Each lesson is loaded with learning tools to help you engage Scripture—a link to 13 free downloadable messages by John MacArthur himself, study questions, memory verses, and suggestions for practical application.

Fundamentals of the Faith is the fruit of many years of preparation, instruction, and application. The power behind this exciting material is not in its format or layout, but in the Word of God on which it is based.

“We know that when the Holy Spirit uses His Word in people’s heart, their lives are transformed.”—John MacArthur. Your life can be next.

Fundamentals of the Faith has been the material for the new believer's class at Grace Community Church (Pastor John MacArthur) for decades. Tens of thousands of people have gone through it, and has been refined through the years. The result is what has to be the best and most effective new believer's class available.

This material is designed to be taught in a small group of around 10-12 people. In fact, the workbook itself is not designed for the class, but rather is the homework for the students. So during the week they do the lesson in the workbook, then once a week they come together to study what they have learned.

The material is ideal. I can't think of another curriculum like this. There are 13 lessons covering the fundamentals of the faith. It majors on the majors, and does not get sidetracked on secondary issues. It is designed for the new Christian, or the person who is investigating Christianity, but who does not really know the depths of what Christians believe. But because it is so basic, I can't help but think that a more mature Christian would also profit from it tremendously; it would be a reminder to them of the foundations of their faith.

This is not like a catechism. Rather, every question is linked to a Bible verse. The students read the verse, then answer a set of questions about what the verse (or passage) says. The end result is that the student has reinforced over and over that the Bible is the authority for life and godliness.

Chapters include the history of the Bible, God's character, the work of Christ, salvation, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, prayer, worship, spiritual gifts, evangelism, and Christian decision making, among others.

We have used MacArthur's Fundamentals of the Faith for several years in our church. Every class that goes through the book comments on how blessed and informed they were. Although this is certainly not intended to be a deep treatment of theology, it does give a very biblically accurate overview and enough scriptural detail to back it up.

I've used this workbook a few times to go through a discipleship session with a couple of guys. It's a good guideline that can be used and followed. It will definitely challenge your thinking in biblical concepts and help you to think through life through the faith of Christianity. I give this 3.5 stars because as it is a useful guide and it does cover much of the foundational points I do believe it does not go in-depth on areas that it should and it goes into areas to in dept that are not as pertinent. I do not believe this workbook clearly lays out what the Christian faith is about and how it will look long-term. As I said it is definitely a useful guide but I would only recommend this for a group of individuals that plan on going through this cooperatively (at least 3 or more) and at least having one individual that is somewhat mature in the faith present to lead. All in all solid, but it would be better to see more information and understanding on sanctification by grace alone, the role and importance of the local church more, and the joy of the gospel in God alone.

Please still use though, hopefully this didn't sound harsh towards this resource because it is useful.

I was not prepared for the amount of work required to do this study and it was way more in depth than I'd expected. But, what an incredible study for Christians of any level. I believe that no matter how long you have been a follower of Jesus there is something in this study for you.

This workbook gives a nice overview of the Christian faith. It is arranged topically with a lot of content. One could read it a number of times and still get something new each time. In essence, it is a relatively brief "Systematic Theology."

What a great book, full of reasons why we don't need to lose faith. But explains clearly what scriptures in the bible encourage us and reaffirms our salvation. Great for increasing anyone's faith!

This a great book that helps to open their Bible and see what God has to say the fundamentals of Christianity. This great for people that learning about faith of Christianity for the first time. Only Critique I would have is that each chapter needs a strong life application. The solution I found was found in Chapter 2 where teacher the acronym S-P-E-C-S (Sin to confess; Promise to claim; Example to follow; Command to obey; Stumbling block to avoid). At end of each lesson I have my students go through acronym S-P-E-C-S to see how the chapter related to them. Also it is important keep in mind it does have fundamental Baptist perspective. 95% I agree with and only 5% do I question.
