From 1970 to 1974, Dr.Munson was on the mechanical engineering faculty of Duke University. From 1964 to 1966, he worked as an engineer in the jet engine fuel control department of Bendix Aerospace Corporation, South Bend, Indiana.
Dr. Munson's main professional activity has been in the area of fluid mechanics education and research. He has been responsible for the development of many fluid mechanics courses for studies in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, and agricultural engineering and is the recipient of an Iowa State university Superior engineering Teacher Award and the Iowa State University Alumni Association Faculty Citation.
He has authored and coauthored many theoretical and experimental technical papers on hydrodynamic stability, low Reynolds number flow, secondary flow, and the applications of viscous incompressible flow. He is a member of the American Society for Engineering Engineers, The American Physical Society, and the American society for Engineering Education. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

One Excellent Book,
By ORHAN GUNDUZ (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics (Hardcover)
If you are new to the area of Fluid Mechanics and need a text to learn the fundamentals, this book is the perfect choice. The text gradually builds on previous material and you almost never get lost reading it. Most equations are derived step by step with detailed explanations of the assumptions made and the mathematical modifications done. The organization of the book is suitable such that one can cover both theoretical and practical aspects of fluids in seperate chapters. I should also mention the wise selection of the example problems. They really help you understand what is going on. Finally, I believe this is an excellent book for any engineer working in the area of fluid mechanics.

The most thorough but easy to understand textbook that I have used so far in my Degree,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics (Hardcover)
This is easily go to be one of the best books that I have ever used for a core Mechanical Engineering subject. In each chapter the explanation of content is very thorough and the examples are explained in reference to the text, unlike some textbooks that skip steps or do not explain algebraic signs. It also has many sections explaining the real life relevance of the content and all the examples are very beneficial to improving your understanding.
Additionally there are videos that demonstrate certain fluid concepts very clearly. I am proud to have Munson's Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics sitting on my bookshelf. In addition the index is absolutely superb, if you are looking for a certain concept such as 'pressure head' you will find indexes to the content sections aswell as page numbers of the examples it is used (and explained) in. Buy this book over any other!

Great Book for Starting with Fluid Mechanics,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics (Hardcover)
This is how a textbook should be written. All topics are introduced with theory and background information to begin with the presentation of the material. After the theory and equations are run through, there are numerous *solved examples* to back up the theory. Examples of different types and with different approaches are all covered.
The end of chapter problems are well set up to really exercise your thinking ability and they really strengthen your comprehension of the material (since the challenging problems force you to go back into the chapter and expand on what you've already learned). Interesting examples are all geared toward designing systems and the analysis of the performance of those systems. In disagreement with one reviewer, the text is not wordy or lofty at all. All explanations are concise and to the point with no extra beating around the bush. Overall the textbook is one of the best I've come across.
