very good book on fundamentals of gas turbines,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Gas Turbines (Paperback)
The 84 edition is very good except for the fact that the IS of units is not used. The readers have to deal constantly with the gc's, J, gcJ and the like, making a whole mess for the student to perform certain calculations. I did not read the 95 edition so far but I am sure it will be evem better.

This has been one of the most frustrating texts to deal with in my college career. The printers used a very low dpi for the diagrams and plots, so much so that many of the details (subscripts on state points, etc) become almost indistinguishable from one another. The example problems are another significant source of pain, as the vast majority of them use the results from previous examples instead of going through the calculations each time. I have run into problems that literally go through a reference chain 4 problems in length, which is extraordinarily unhelpful. Also, there are many skipped steps in the problems that are worked out, and many of the intermediary calculations do not include units, further making it difficult to follow. One positive I will say about the book is that it seems that efforts were made to lay out the content in a relatively concise manner, with headings and subsections for all of the main concepts, breaking down the reading into manageable segments. If the author/publisher can clean up the example problems to the point that they are actually helpful, this can be a good text. Until then, I cannot recommend it to any student hoping to learn the subject.

This product was in brand new condition and was shipped incredibly fast! I will say however that the print was not as dark or detailed as some other paperbacks that my friends ordered from other sites. Also A thin protective film on the outside of the book is coming off after only 1 month of use. Still, there are not any misprinted pages, and the text book is very helpful in class!
