Fundamentals of Hearing - a good review - a good plae to start,
By L. Colton "LC" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fundamentals of Hearing, Third Edition: An Introduction (Hardcover)
Yost's "Fundamentals of Hearing" was recommended by a more advanced acoustics reference, as a basic reference. I was able to locate the edition third edition (1994) in a library. I found it to be very comprehensive. It answered many of many questions that other "comprehensive" acoustic references (including one published 2008)appeared to skip over. I plan to purchase a later edition of this book for my personal library, as there is a fourth edition (2000) and a fifth edition (2006.)

poor basics and too much air,
This review is from: Fundamentals of Hearing, Fourth Edition: An Introduction (Hardcover)
I got the book from a friend and iam very disappointed. The book covers what all the other books cover too, but the author uses three quarters of the letters only to fill space. The content could be much more compressed, also are the figures poorly made or just copied from papers. But a much larger problem is, that the author seems not to have any idea what he is talking about in terms of physics. The formulas that are given use wrong abbreviations, mixes that abbreviations (uses T and t for time only 5 cm apart) and gives the formulas not necessarly showing that he knows how to use them correctly. If you want a good book about the basics of hearing, buy another one.
