Krashen presents an excellent foundation on the role of environment and instruction in the acquisition of language. The roles of oral language, reading and writing and their relationship to language learning are also presented. Material is well organized, the writing style is concise and examples are helpful. This publication can be useful at both the undergraduate and graduate level for students seeking a solid introduction to first and second language acquisition.
