Book Description

January 1, 1994 0070259569 978-0070259560
This book is for a one-semester course entitled fluid film lubrication or tribology, for undergraduate seniors or graduate students. It focuses specifically on fluid film lubrication rather than on the general topic of tribology. Hydrodynamic and elastohydrodynamic lubrication are modes of fluid film lubrication and are emphasized in this text, with boundary lubrication given cursory treatment. Additional emphasis is given to deriving formulas from basic theory and providing physical understanding of these formulas. Sample problems illustrate how to apply knowledge from chapter material to the solution of practical problems. The text contains abundant numerical data of properties of fluids and solids used in fluid film lubrication not normally readily available to engineering design people. The text features ample design information which should be helpful to the design of journal and thrust bearings. The physical interpretation of relevant equations are given. Material has been thoroughly class-tested at a variety of schools.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bible of Fluid Film Bearing Design, February 16, 2008
This review is from: Fundamentals of Fluid Film Lubrication (McGraw-Hill Mechanical Engineering) (Hardcover)
One of the best books available for the science, technology, and application of lubricated interacting surfaces in relative motion. Advanced analysis techniques and discussion on modern experimental methods provide an enhanced understanding of fundamental principles of lubrication, friction, and wear. Basics of design and analysis of machine components operating in the presence of air and liquid lubricants. Rolling fatigue, friction and wear models, and measurement techniques. This is the book to study.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice book for tribologists, August 28, 2002
By
This review is from: Fundamentals of Fluid Film Lubrication (McGraw-Hill Mechanical Engineering) (Hardcover)
This book is covering the field of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication, taking into account all parameters (bearing materials, surface geometry, lubricant properties and fluid mechanics equations) through a systematic approach.
