Its coverage is strategically divided--65% concerned with manufacturing process technologies, 35% dealing with engineering materials and production systems. Groover adopts an approach that is more quantitative and engineering-oriented than most competing books, with more equations and numerical problem exercises. His goal is to make the subject of manufacturing processes more of an objective science and less of a descriptive art.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Text. Beware the typos!, November 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
From a student's perspective, this is a very good textbook on manufacturing. I must give a warning however to both students and professors, however. This book is chock-full of typos. I'm not talking small, grammar-related typos; I'm talking about significant typos such as formula errors: variables missing, variables inside parentheses that should be outside them, etc. (If you have the text, note equations 11.3 and 11.4 on p. 243 for fairly blatant examples.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Fundamentals of Modern Manufacturing, May 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Fundamentals of Modern Manufacturing: Materials, Processes, and Systems (Prentice Hall International Series in Industrial and Systems Engineering) (Hardcover)
I think this is a great reference book. I have had prof. Groover in 3 of my Industrial Engineering classes at Lehigh University. There is not a single semester when I don't go back to use the book as a reference. The book is very easy to read, and to understand.

1.0 out of 5 stars I hate this book, February 1, 2012

This is one of the least user friendly textbooks I've had while I've been an engineering student. I feel that it doesn't explain complex topics that require a lot of calculations very well. It provides absolutely no answers in the back of the book, so you have no idea how you're doing until you turn in your homework and get an F on it. I wish we were using a different text.
