It is still a very good book, just read my review,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Modern Police Impact Weapons (Hardcover)
I was dissapointed by the lack of what I would call "Ayoobs wisdom", I am a religious reader of everything he writes. This book is an excellent resource book for refresher training, not all agenices provide that, and for those of us who DO carry a baton, had better keep proficient with it! or it will either be shoved up an orifice, or used to batter us in a civil suit. The price of the book is reasonable, and LFI (Ayoobs school in NH) has many other books on the same subject, all complimentary to the other. This book is certainly a smart purchase and the 3 star rating reflects only my personal dissapointment when I compare to the "readability" of his other books, this is very much a rote technique book. I still recommend it to peers.

An excellent basic guide to the use of various police impact weapons.,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Modern Police Impact Weapons (Hardcover)
Though this book is dated to some degree; nevertheless, it is still an excellent basic guide to using the police straight standard baton, the yawara stick and other police impact weapons. This book was written before the various expandable type batons became popular; however, the basic techniques shown in this text are still used by baton instructors today.
The author is most known for his expertise in the use of firearms and an expert witness in deadly force issues, but he is also a highly competent baton instructor, including the PR-24 Police Baton. In conclusion, this book is for police baton instructors and anyone else who is interested in police impact weapons techniques and tactics. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: PR-24 Police Baton Advanced Techniques).

A must for martial artists,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Modern Police Impact Weapons (Hardcover)
This book is about actually using weapons rather than simulation in the studio or dojo. Martial artists who want to use their skills only as a sport may do so but most of us want skills that would work outside of the studio. On the streets, no matter your skill, strength and size may trump your technique. A weapon is an equalizer but many weapons such as gun and kinfe are potentially lethal -- and in the real world lethality or even long-lasting damage should not be treated lightly. Ayoob shows how impact weapons can be used to STOP an assailant with minimal long-term damage.

Art & Science of BLUDGEONING!,
This review is from: Fundamentals of Modern Police Impact Weapons (Hardcover)
This is a somewhat dated book with associated flaws, but has some gems of significant information for the stick fighter. This book is compilation of the capabilities and employment of various bludgeoning devices and implements for offensive and defensive application. A wide selection of weapons are covered from the common stick to the Nunchaku and everything in between to include Yawara stick, brass knuckles, sap, Billy club, ASP and batons. I find it amusing the book included the Nunchaku that is completely useless for self-defense and combative application. But taken into account the year this book was published I can understand its inclusion. The book provide detailed instruction for the employment of these weapons from the law enforcement perspective, which employ these weapons in generally a non-lethal application with deadly force only in-extremis. This needs to be understood by the combatant stick fighter; however this does not discredit the book in anyway. This book illustrated with numerous photos that provide pretty good detail to the text. I recommend this book to anyone interested in fist loads and stick fighting.

Impact weapons for Law Enforcement,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fundamentals of Modern Police Impact Weapons (Hardcover)
The author (although well known) had left out some interesting physics concepts when exploring weapons with depended upon them (nunchaku, etc). The book appears to be written well before the common use of the "ASP-Type" baton and therefore includes most of the LE weapons of the 1970's. However the telescopic baton is never mentioned nor compared with the side handled baton or the Nunchaku (which, incidentally the author believes to be an appropriate LE weapon). I believe the book to be of value to those who have enough of a background to make furthor comparisons using most recient knowlege and court rulings.
