This book has an access code for online resources. If you purchase the book used, and the access code has already been used, it does not work to access the online portion of the book. It is worth it to buy this book new instead of used for online content.

I have the 6th edition of this book, that I bought for my daughter when she was in Nursing school, my son will be starting Nursing school, so we were wanting to save money by using her book's, I clicked on the look inside, and compared it to the one we have, I did not see any reason, I should buy this newer edition, it looks like they just moved the chapters and page numbers around and just add enough extra's so they could justify calling it a newer edition, so they could sell more books, when is someone going to step in and put a stop to this practice, why should these students have to buy a newer edition, when it has basically the same thing as the older version, there is no other reason, but for these publishers to make more money, its not fair to these students or their parents.

The book may be fine, but the DVD ROM that comes with it does not work on modern Mac OS X machines. It uses the old PowerPC software and Apple no longer support that. So the only way to use the DVD is to run it on Windows

Even now in my 3rd semester of Nursing school, I refer back to this book for the basics such as VS, lab values, therapeutic comm., stages of development for each age group. You might can get away without ever cracking a book open, but if you have no medical experience as in you've never worked as a tech or LPN, you should get the book.

I think even with the experience, you need this book for future reference you as you move further into the program.

I definitely would recommend this to 1st year students.

This was actually a required text for my nursing one course, but it’ll actually serve you well into your medical-surgical nursing rotation as well. A great majority of our required readings for lecture and clinical lab days came from the follow textbook. And trust me I understand the troubles of having to read a hefty amount of material before lecture so that you’re not completely lost on lecture day. But one of the great things about this book is that it’s definitely easy to read and comprehend. Unlike a lot of the other science based textbooks out there such as microbiology or anatomy & physiology you’ll probably be less likely to get bored or drift off while reading because the concepts are easy to grasp. Terminology was one of my greatest hang ups in the beginning because I didn't have a job or a background in healthcare at that moment so I wasn't very familiar with a lot of jargon being used during clinical lab days. Taylor is great at covering those basic fundamentals that you need and will eventually build upon to become a skilled nurse.
Another great thing that I absolutely love about this book is the great illustrations and tables in the chapter that gives you relevant and pertinent information about what you’re reading. Now that may sound sort of funny or that it’s not that big of a deal, but nothings worse than reading a long drawn out description of how to perform a technique and yet you have not visual aids. It’s important that you understand what it means to do a complete a head to toe assessment, how to take a complete set of vitals or what’s considered normal lab values. These are fundamental skills that nurses use and perform everyday on the job, and this text will help you learn all of these skills.

I am a long distance learner meaning I am completing my degree online and through independent study. My degree program does not qualify me for financial aid so the prices of my textbooks are very important to me. Saving on this end helps me to go further in my studies. I ordered 4 books from 3 different companies all arriving around the same time. Each book i received was not only packaged in the outer cardboard box but also in some sort of plastic wrap to further protect the books. Each book I ordered was a new book and all of them except for this book met my expectations for a new book. This book came in nothing but the outer box and when I pulled it out it looked like an animal had gotten a hold of it. The bottom of the binding damaged with denting and the back and front covers were bent in. The inside of the book however was fine. There was no sign of damage to the package it was sent in. My point is if I had to guess I would say that this book was a used book by the condition of the outside. I recently sent back 3 other text books as sell backs that were very much used but not abused. They were in better condition than this so called new book. I did contact the seller and let them know that if I had the time I would have sent this book back for a refund and that I hoped that hearing this would prompt them to take more pride in the quality of the products they put out.
