The ideal companion of the Greenberg's handbook,
By massimiliano sanzo (Firenze, Italia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fundamentals of Operative Techniques in Neurosurgery (Paperback)
This is an handbook of operative neurosurgical techniques. There are a lot of informations about the operating room supplies, the surgical instruments and equipment. Are also present the major neurosurgical procedures, even if someone is not so common in the daily practice (p.e. Dolenc approach), and, there are not information about the posterior fossa approach(there is just the lateral and the supracerebellar approaches but no mention about the IV ventricle approach or something about the IV° ventricle or cerebellar tumors). Maybe it also lack of figures and illustrations. There are not drawings for the surgical position and the Instrument Trays chapter are to much rich of informations (it, in my opinion could be more useful for a nurse). I have presented this book to a couple of Collegues that live and work in a country in which the operating rooms supplies and the surgical equipment are not like in the USA or the Europe; so, it could be useful to bold the "essential" instruments or supplies for those who live and work in other countries. I hope that the next edition will be more complete, and i will buy it again for sure. Massimiliano Sanzo M.D., Neurosurgeon

not bad , not Greenberg,
By
This review is from: Fundamentals of Operative Techniques in Neurosurgery (Paperback)
I bought it with high expectations believing that it would be as great as Greenberg. What a disappointment! It has 200 pages in the beginning totally useless, it has very few figures and it could have been more tightly written in fewer pages. The 3 stars go because it covers most of the neurosurgical procedures by providing the basic steps of them. With a little more work a good second edition is possible.

Neurosurgical Operative Outlines,
By
This review is from: Fundamentals of Operative Techniques in Neurosurgery (Paperback)
Experts describe the Operative aspects of cranial and spinal neurosurgical procedures for the residents and medical students. This is a useful quick pocket book outline. Black and white line drawings with shading occur throughout.

Great book,
This review is from: Fundamentals of Operative Techniques in Neurosurgery (Paperback)
Fundamentals of Operative Techniques in Neurosurgery does just wonderfully what it promises, ie it complements Greenberg's Handbook of Neurosurgery. It's worth every cent from resident's perspective. If you love Greenberg's textbooks you'll like this one too. Just a reminder however, this is not a replacement for large format textbook. It's small enough to carry home, when you get to go home ;-)

Lousy book,
By yeegan (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fundamentals of Operative Techniques in Neurosurgery (Paperback)
This book is neither detail enough to be used as a revision book nor small enough to be used daily. A big waste of time and money! Don't ever buy it.

Spend your green squares on something else,
By Dan Scute "Hooty Man" (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fundamentals of Operative Techniques in Neurosurgery (Paperback)
Until the publishers spend a lot more time and energy reworking this book it will remain a door stop. Needs lots more pictures and diagrams and needs to be written for a resident or attending to use as a prep right before surgery. As it it now it's too much filler and not enough detail. Plus it's $100. Are you kidding me?
