Does it really cut it,
By
This review is from: Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry (Hardcover)
This book is an OK introductory organic chemistry text however I wanted more. I personally needed a book which gives a clear understanding of the basics and advanced concepts. I found two books which if used together produce the best results.
March's advanced organic chemistry and Organic chemistry by wade (6th edition). These books are of tremendous help to me in understanding the fundamentals and also the more advanced concepts of organic chemistry. I also wanted to save money as I am doing further organic synthesis and other carbon chemistry subjects later on so I needed a book that is particularly good for reference. If you are prescribed this book then go for it but I personally feel it doesnt really cut it for me. (I will edit this soon)

Not a good textbook,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry (Hardcover)
This textbook does not really cover the fundamentals of organic chemistry but more advance fundamentals. Students really need to have at least two semesters of general chemistry before attempting Organic Chemistry and this textbook is more advanced than what I needed for a two-year college degree. I will be looking for something less advaance and easier for the students to read. The textbook would be excellent for more advance degree seeking students. The students that I have are not chemistry majors. The description of the textbook is misleading. I will not be using this in future semesters. Also for the price, students should have access to study tools online and not be gouged for more money after paying an exuberant price for the book.

I thought this was the 7th edition, I looked as hard as I could but couldn't find the edition on it. I was looking at a hard cover 7th edition and this was listed under paperback for the 7th but when I got it it was the 6th edition. The preview showed the 7th too.

This book is smaller than most textbooks, but packed with information. This book very clearly shows the mechanisms for different reactions, which helped me out tremendously. I highly recommend this book!

Getting the book was no problem. It came on time and I thought that was great. Then the Prof. said the bookstore gave out the wrong information ie. ISBN and he wanted another book!! By then school had started, I was taking a very difficult class and I had the wrong book. I needed to return the Amazon book and purchase the correct new book at the bookstore. I am still waiting to get my money back on the Amazon book I was FINALLY able to return. It took forever to get the claim processed before I was able receive permission to return the Amazon book.

Great "Portable & Lightweight" Book!,

As an Organic Chemistry student who wants to do well, our class uses the John McMurry 8th Edition book, and I also purchased an older version of William H. Brown book, but this thinner blue cover "Organic Chemistry" book by McMurry is great because it fits into a large purse or can sit on the stairmaster or elliptical machine without falling off. The other books are 1200 pages, and are not very portable. This is great as a supplemental book if you want to study on the road or at the gym etc. Great addition as a thin light option.

I wish I had this book the first time I tried organic chemistry. It's easy to follow and answers all of the questions from the test book. I highly recommend it. The chapter outlines are a great way to review the material.

I like the way this book is set up. This makes it easy when you are dealing with a subject matter you may not like that much.

The textbook had some water damage, but other than that it was fine. All of the pages were included and there weren't any markings in the book.
