Two semesters for the price of one,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Physics (Regular Edition) (Hardcover)
For my first semester of physics in college, I needed to purchase volume 1 of this textbook, which is the only thing my campus bookstore had. But for next semester I would need the second volume. I figured I would just buy this one and use it for both. For anyone wondering if there are any differences between this and just Volume 1, there are exactly 0. The page numbers and problems are exactly the same. I compared Volume 1 with this copy after I got it just to make sure. Definitely consider getting this for multiple semesters of physics.

Thie DOES NOT include the wileyPLUS online accompaniment. If your professor requires wileyPLUS do not order this unless you intend to order the wileyPLUS seperate.

Good book for the most part. It explains things well, with some instances where you really need to read closely to understand what they are talking about. They give lots of example problems in this book. The examples are nice, but sometimes they don't seem to follow a logical order and they are hard to follow what the author did to get the answers. Wiley Plus is a program that goes along with the book and it is very expensive. If you need it, it is almost better to buy the book brand new with the code for the website, as the website portion by itself costs over fifty dollars.

Uninteresting but good examples,
This review is from: Fundamentals of Physics (Regular Edition) (Hardcover)
This book is valuable because it walks through examples of how to do physics problems. However, the text is very dry - although I'm not sure that could really be helped, given the subject matter.

A superb guide to your first physics classes!,

This review is from: Fundamentals of Physics (Regular Edition) (Hardcover)
In 2010, I was taking Physics II (Introduction to Electricity and Magnetism) at my university. Despite being very interested in the subject and determined to do well, I found that the class textbook was totally incompatible with my learning style. I reached the point where I despaired of doing well in the class using that book-so I bought "Fundamentals of Physics" used, for $20, to see if its approach would be any better. Even if I had paid $200 instead of $20, it would still have been a bargain! This book presents subjects in a clear and concise manner-the text is excellent. The worked examples are very helpful, and just about every subject the book mentions has one or more fully-worked example problems relating to it. The end-of-chapter problems are classified by difficulty level, and I was able to solve almost all of them that I attempted after carefully studying the chapter. This book really made Physics II a great and interesting class, and I have used it countless times as a reference in my subsequent physics classes. As a physics enthusiast, I highly recommend this book! And if you're a physics non-enthusiast who has to take physics anyway, if you can find a cheap used copy of this book like I did, I'm sure it will help you get through your physics requirements with its clear explanations and numerous examples.

Not fit for the beginner,
This review is from: Fundamentals of Physics (Regular Edition) (Hardcover)
This book is not for the beginner, it is written with conjuncture and erratically explains the fundamentals. Every classmate i have had describes the book as "worthless for telling you how" and "I only use it for practice problems", and "Go to youtube it helps out more then the book" For me it seems like its a giant advertisement for Wiley.com and the FlyingCircusOfPhysics.com. There are several problems in which the student will be forced to go to wither website to solve the problem. Several problems are written so vague, even the professor had a heck of a time understanding what was being asked. A side by side comparison of the 7th and 8th edition shows that not much has changed outside of reordering problems, and explaining paragraphs.
This book is useless for beginners.

Too "wordy",
This review is from: Fundamentals of Physics (Regular Edition) (Hardcover)
This book requires some background, as well understanding of high school physics. Although it is a good start for university physics, it doesn't go deep in to the subject, and does not use much mathematics which makes it very "wordy" and hard to concentrate. Even if you start with this book, once you think you got the hold of the subject, or got the idea how to study the subject, it is good and will save time to move on to another book that suet your purpose better.

This text is extremely useful for college. It presents the material in an orderly and plain manner, which makes it very simple to use and understand. I would highly recommend it to all physics students in college or those taking AP Physics C in High School. It's a wonderful resource to have!!!
