Book Description

The predominant strategy of this text is to move from the simple to the complex. It includes topics such as categorical and sentential logic, informal fallacies, inductive logic, and extended arguments. With a non-technical approach, this book leads students step-by-step through simple demonstrations and then on to more complex material as their comfort level increases. Well designed examples, sample problems, explanatory charts and diagrams, and exercises abound.

3.0 out of 5 stars Relatively Technical, February 23, 2002

This review is from: Fundamentals of Reasoning: A Logic Book (Paperback)
Not everyone is founded in logic. Actually, most everyone is not. The author attempts to immeadiately aquaint the reader with arguments and inductive strength, when most readers are not prepared for such technical language right off the bat. It would have been better for Robert Johnson to have supplied modern textbook highlighting and sectional delineations and conversational language the reader can relate to rather than plain text and examples that read like computer programming. He does give examples that are easy to understand, but when you are not eased into it, the examples don't help.
