5.0 out of 5 stars Great Primer, February 20, 2006

This review is from: Fundamentals of Semiconductor Devices (Hardcover)
If you have no knowledge of semiconductors and you want to learn this is THE book. Currently I am using it for my undergraduate course in semiconductor devices and its explanations and presentation of material is wonderful.

I really enjoyed the introductory chapter and supplement on quantum mechanics. It goes through just enough of the shroedinger equation so that you will have a feel for what is going on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, January 14, 2006
This review is from: Fundamentals of Semiconductor Devices (Hardcover)
As a junior in college studying semiconductors, I can attest that this book has been enormously helpful in my studies, and much better than the required text.

Concepts are presented in a clear way that's easy to understand, with in-depth explanations and many very helpful examples and analogies. There are many well-done diagrams that make visualizing the concepts easier (as would be expected).

One other neat thing about this book is that it's organized in a way such that a lot of the detailed derivations and other more in-depth sections are clearly labled so that if all you want are the basic concepts, you don't have to be bogged down by advanced material, which can be returned to later for a more advanced understanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clearly written, an enjoyable book, May 20, 2011

I used this book as an undergrad several years ago. Lately I've had to review my semiconductor physics and I'm glad I held on to this book. It's very well written. An earlier review complained about the long paragraphs... Yes, there are lots of explanations but I found them to be helpful in understanding the subtleties and dependencies that can get lost in the equations. The typography is excellent; the text is clear, uncluttered, well organized. The only color in the text comes in the form of blue highlights. They are used on the section headers, boxes around key equations, and diagrams. I find it very easy on the eyes and useful for locating key info. At the end of each chapter there is a nice summary and some simple questions to make sure you comprehended the chapter. And of course, the usual textbook references and problem sets are there too. A real pleasure to read!
