Product Description
The Fundamentals of SolidWorks 2008 is designed for students, educators, and hobbyists to learn the basic principles of SolidWorks 2008 as it relates to the design of the VEXplorer robot. Supplemental information and models are provided on a CO2 Car Design; examples: F1 in Schools Design Project and the Vex Robotics Design System used in contests around the world.

VEXplorer is part of the Vex system, which is widely embedded in junior high school, high school, and college robotics classes. It is endorsed by FIRST, NASA, Carnegie Mellon, and other prestigious organizations, and it won the Best Innovation of Show award at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show.

The VEXplorer robot is compatible with the Vex Robotics Design System and can be expanded using a variety of accessories and mechanical parts available at vex.com. The VEXplorer robot is a 300+ part kit manufactured by Innovation First, Inc. and Revell Inc.

Throughout this book, you will recreate VEXplorer robot components by developing SolidWorks 3D parts, 3D assemblies, and 2D drawings, perform part analyses, and assembly animation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting SW text book, July 20, 2008
After working with VEX robots and CO2 cars for 2 years in summer camp, I decided to switch from Autocad to SolidWorks and add some 3D CAD to my program. This book is a great help introducing students to 3D modeling. Students just love the SolidWorks and they can follow the book with little intervention from me. This is a life saver when you have 30 plus students in a class.

The best part of the book is all the model files of the VEXplorer, VEX Starter Kit, and F1 in Schools car assembly. These models are great time savers and really get kids excited about learning. But don't tell them that they are learning, just having fun...
