This introductory-level book provides the beginner with the basics of turfgrass management. Scientific names are as up-to-date as possible for the turfgrasses as well as pests that invade them. Diagrams / photos of grasses and grass pests could be more extensive, but the cost of the book would likely escalate beyond the nominal price of this volume, which makes it attractive for use as a text in an entry-level turfgrass course.

First off let me say that I bought this book to teach myself, not going along with any class or anything. It has some good information in it, I did have two problems though. First off the entire book is in black and white, except for maybe a 15 page section in the middle which just has pictures to identify grasses and weeds. It would be a lot better if the whole thing was in color. Especially when it shows you a turf problem in a B&W picture, it is kind of hard to tell what it really looks like. The few colored pictures they do have are only a close up of each type of weed/turf..I would be nice if they had more pictures of them from different views..as you are not always holding it up to your eyes to identify it. The other thing I didn't like was that I was hoping the book would have short quizzes after each chapter(where they just ask you questions about the chapter, usually used for homework. Since i'm teaching myself it would be nice to have some questions to go off of. The book still has a lot of good info in it, I don't think I would pay $70 for it again though, probably spend a little more on another book.
