5.0 out of 5 stars easy and informative, June 19, 2006
This review is from: Fundamentals of Pascal,Understanding Programming and Problem Solving (Hardcover)
i definitely reccomend this for a beginning programmer in high school. adults will probably find it to be too simple (i nearly finished it in a month, and i'm in high school).

EDIT: pascal is a dead language. for a simple but useful language, try Delphi (based on pascl) or Visual Basic.

3.0 out of 5 stars why would you read this book?, February 19, 2005
This review is from: Fundamentals of Pascal,Understanding Programming and Problem Solving (Hardcover)
In the abstract, this book is fine as a pedagogic means of understanding programming, and how to apply it to problems. But, as a practical matter, if you are going to spend the time in learning a computer language, Pascal is a bad choice. It is in steep decline as a language. Both in academia and industry.

You would be far better served to choose a language that is used by more people. Try C++, Java, C# or Visual Basic. Or just plain old C. If nothing else, there are more jobs using these, than Pascal, which has sadly missed the boat.
