Book Description

0471197483 978-0471197485 February 16, 1999 1
Wavelet theory originated from research activities in many areas of science and engineering. As a result, it finds applications in a wide range of practical problems. Wavelet techniques are specifically suited for nonstationary signals for which classic Fourier methods are ineffective.

Based on courses taught by the authors at Texas A&M University as well as related conferences, Fundamentals of Wavelets is a textbook offering an up-to-date engineering approach to wavelet theory. It balances a discussion of wavelet theory and algorithms with its far-ranging practical applications in signal processing, image processing, electromagnetic wave scattering, and boundary value problems.

In a clear, progressive format, the book describes:
* Basic concepts of linear algebra, Fourier analysis, and discrete signal analysis
* Theoretical aspects of time-frequency analysis and multiresolution analysis
* Construction of various wavelets
* Algorithms for computing wavelet transformations.

Concluding chapters present interesting applications of wavelets to signal processing and boundary value problems. Fundamentals of Wavelets is an essential introduction to wavelet theory for students and professionals alike in a practical, real-world engineering context.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book is well-written, the material is arranged in a logical order...it is suggested to be read by image processing experts doing image analysis and image compressions and having good mathematical background." (CIE News Vol. 58)

"...will be extremely useful for signal processing engineers and scientists, all of whom should have a copy on their bookshelves" (Electronics & Communications Engineering Journal, December 2000)

5.0 out of 5 stars wavelets for engineers, January 25, 2003
By
This review is from: Fundamentals of Wavelets: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications (Wiley Series in Microwave and Optical Engineering) (Hardcover)
The marriage of signal processing and wavelets has spun off a host of exciting applications of math and algorithms. The use of wavelets outside of math itself is a recent sucess story. As a rule, it was an unexpected combination of ideas,-- as opposed to a single one, that generated the most powerful applications. The present very nice book is aimed at students taking a service course, for example electrical or optical engineers, but it has broader appeal as well. The authors start with basic principles from math, and move on to multicarrier communication systems..., and boundary value probems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surely a good fundamental book on the subjet, May 20, 2011
I have been studying in this field for over five years now, and I find the book very comprehensive and fundamental. Compared to most of the popular books on Wavelet analysis, this book touches the subject from its root, and answering some basic questions like what is a wavelet, what is its origin, and how is it is useful for performing Time Scale signal analysis. The best part that I find is that the book perfectly balances a mathematician perspective of the subject matter with that of an Engineer's viewpoint. The reader will find lots of examples, MATLAB codes, illustration and exercises, which are hard to find in other books. The authors have presented the material with a sound theoretical foundation with lots of clearly presented definitions and theorems. The book also introduces a wide range of applications in the field of Signal and Image analysis, data compression, Seismic analysis, etc.

This book has been carefully crafted as opposed to one of those collections of journal articles that just fills in concepts, without explaining them clearly. I would strongly suggest this book for the beginners as well as intermediate level students.

5.0 out of 5 stars great item but money was not returned when the first order was cancelled, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Fundamentals of Wavelets: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications (Wiley Series in Microwave and Optical Engineering) (Hardcover)
I like the book it was great reading it. But next time dont use post office for your free shipping, they dont deliver in time. Also up till now, I have not receive my money back when amazon cancelled the first booking. Please return my $88.
