Great Game for age range,
By
This review is from: Monster Under My Bed (Toy)
This is a great game for the specified age range of 4+. My four year old got this game from "Santa" at a Christmas party. We took it home and played it. Granted it is not educational at all but he LOVED it!! The monster is adorable and the game pieces that go under the bed are a decent size so they do get lost as easily as some other game pieces. There is absolutely NO reading required, only matching pieces to a game board. The winner has to get three in a row like bingo or tic-tac-toe. My seven year old will also play the game with him and it is fun for her as well because you never know when the monster will pop out. If you are looking for a fun, easy board game for a four year old that keeps their interest(which is hard to find)I highly recommend buying this game.

I'm a speech pathologist and I am always looking for ways to teach children an understanding of spatial concepts. The first time I played this game I jumped when the monster popped up, so make sure you warn the children this will happen. I still jump every time, but the kids just love it. This has worked well with my preschool aged children up to 2nd graders, I haven't tried past that age but think 3rd graders would enjoy it too. The kids seem to like trying to predict when the monster will pop up as well as looking at some of the gross things under the bed-a partially eaten sucker, a dirty diaper, etc.. The kids seem to love the gross items! This game encourages children to learn and use concept words in their communication, they just need a boost sometimes. A fun game to play!

Entertaining,

We purchased this game for our 5 year old son. My daughter, who is easily frightened, was uneasy while playing the game because of the monster's abrupt arrival. She has only played once. The rest in our family enjoy playing. Assembly was average. The game has a heavy plastic flap that is supposed to cover the bottom of the bed. At times it becomes lodged and disables the monster sensor. Sometimes the monster goes into sleep mode while we're still playing. This is a good game for young children to play independently because it is VERY SIMPLE.

We just played this for the first time. Only complaint is that the monster doesn't go down into the headboard as it is supposed to. We'll have to take it apart and fix it. No matter, the kids lived it even without the added element of the monster surprise. They loved reaching under the bed and finding the funny stuff. My 3 year old son even sniffed the dirty diaper much to his 4 year old sister's amusement. The kids knew exactly how to play the game after only one round. I sat in for the first round and now they're playing on their own and fighting about whose turn comes next (there's only two of them so I'm not sure the root of the problem). I was afraid that the "icky things" for under the bed would be small and easily lost. They're decent sized and not at risk of being lost. At least not immediately. Overall, I give this two thumgs up.

I got my kids this game last christmas and we've played several times. It's really cute that everyone has to reach "under the bed" and try to pull out an item that's on their card (dirty diaper, smelly sock, rotten orange, etc...). The catch is that you can't spend too long b/c if the monster (that growls and makes comments like, "hey, who's there") pops up and someone has their hand under his bed, you have to clear your card of everything you've found. The good thing about this game is that it is good for younger players too since you can turn the monster feature off so that younger players have more time without getting scared when the monster pops up. The bad thing is that the monster is hard to push back down and get him to stay down so you can resume playing after he pops up. After we played several times, the monster was nearly impossible to get to stay down and once he did...he's never popped back up again (although, he will make the occasional groan or growl). The bed falls apart kind of easily if you pick it up to move it. However, my daughter has found it a very cute bed for many of her dolls and she loves that the "pillow" lifts up so that you can hide stuff in the bed, so it's been a fun toy for her. We may have just gotten a defective one or one that wasn't made very well. It is such a cute, fun game and the kids like it just thinking that the monster may pop up that we continue to play it and it would probably be worth the money if your family has a "game night" like we do.

This does not do as much as the description says it will - it only popped up once in 45 minutes of play. It makes no noise at all. One might as well put several items in a brown paper bag and have the kids reach in and try to pull out certain items. Waste of money!
