4.0 out of 5 stars Lots o' fun for mom & 4-yr-old son
I remember this game from my youth, and am delighted that my son and I can play it together without one of us consistently winning (I go a little slower at times to give him a chance, but other times he beats me without "help"). A little noisy and not as sturdy as I recall, but we can play several games without him tiring of it. It's a good value considering the length of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun but not sturdy
My boys (ages 4 and 5 1/2 got this for Christmas last year. It really is a lot of fun, but the game constantly falls apart with regular play. It ended up being thrown out this spring as the balls were dented and lost and we couldn't deal with snapping it together anymore. Not worth the cost unfortunately.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's still fun today, March 31, 2007

I bought this for me and my 9 year old daughter to play. I figured I loved it when I was growing up I thought she'd like it too. Well, since it arrived 2 days ago she asks me about every 5 minutes if we can play the game. I still enjoy it too. Great game.

This great game from my childhood prompted me to seek one out for my own rambuncious kids. In searching Ebay for vintage games I noticed the company was again manufacturing "new" games and so I decided to purchase a brand-new "clean" game. However, my new purchase seems to lack stability as compared to the original. Most matches require continual repositioning of the cover/lid to keep the game from coming apart. The buttons also don't seem to have the oomph of the original. There is definately a difference in an "original" Gnip Gnop game and a new one. If I were in the market again, I would opt for an original rather than a new model, newer is not always better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the same quality as when I was a kid, January 3, 2009

Remembering Gnip Gnop from my childhood, I bought one for my kids this year. The game play is the same, but the game is smaller and the constuction quality is completely insufficient for a game that has kids pounding paddles as quickly as they can.

The game falls apart regularly. When it does, the balls can escape the play-field, so of course they get lost. This is a fundamental design problem, not something specific to my copy. I would try gluing the whole thing together, but with the pounding the game takes, I doubt the glue would hold.

Avoid this product, or buy with the knowledge that it has a usable lifespan measured in weeks.

My kids really like this game. I'm not sure why some people are saying it is "flimsy" and "falls apart". Maybe they didn't put it together properly? Mine is very sturdy and we pound away on it while we are playing! This is not a game that you want to take apart after every play. Put it together and leave it that way.

This is an old game from the 70s or so, but has an action oriented appeal even for a five year old girl. Unlike so many electronic games this one needs no batteries nor much in the way of instructions. Play is almost universally understood.

As such this game has withstood the test of time, and is fun for this age group and for older siblings and parents to play along as well.

My husband and I so enjoyed this game as children that we decided to purchase one for our daughters, ages 10 and 7. It is definitely not as durable as the original. It's very easy to put together yet it can come apart during normal play. To the point we have to put pieces back in place between games or either hold pieces in place during actual play. A little frustrating; however, my daughter absolutely love the game. I guess since they never played the original version from the 70s they have nothing to compare it to. I would still purchase it again but would not it expect it to last for the long haul.

My sister bought this game for her 7-year-old granddaughter. The 7-year-old has to fight with her 20-year-old aunt to play the game. Even grandma gets in on the action. The game is easy to learn, set-up is a breeze, and it provides hours of entertainment for all ages. It's a classic game that has stood the test of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Fun Game!, January 30, 2007
This review is from: Gnip Gnop (Toy)
Our children had this game when they were younger and I bought each another game for Christmas to share with their families. Children as young as 3 or 4 can join in - and there are no batteries to worry about replacing! You can have fun without the worry of someone getting physically hurt - just hurt feelings when they lose.
