Hooked on Mexican Train Dominoes,

This review is from: Mexican Train Dominoes Hub (Toy)
My brother bought a Mexican Train Dominoes set for my step-daughter two years ago and we'd never learned how to play it. While visiting family this year for Christmas we finally learned how to play and were instantly hooked. I came back home and dragged out the set my brother had bought and thanks to a friend's toddlers who were playing with it one day it was already missing half of the trains. It also had a boring hub that didn't make any cool train noises like my nephew's set that we'd learned on at Christmas. This Hub set is very cool. It makes realistic train noises when you press down in the center of the hub, and I love the toy train track look of the hub itself...way better than my old one - flimsy, flat piece of plastic with sharp edges. The trains are also designed with a leg on the back that rests on a lip on the hub so they stay put better during play. I wasn't crazy about the trains themselves because they're translucent with silver glitter in them, but my 11-year-old step-daughter thinks they're pretty so I guess I can live with them. I wish the set would have come with some score pads, because my original set didn't come with any, but I just created my own on the computer and can print them out as I need them.

This is the first time I ever leave a negative feedback on Amazon! I bought this item about two weeks ago. At first the train sounds were audible but after almost no use (2 times) the volume went drastically down. I thought that it was due to the batteries as they were probably aging in the packaging. First disappointment: Instead of using regular AA or AAA batteries, this toy comes with 3 bottom cell batteries that you need to take out from a less than a 1/2" compartment where they are clustered. I finally made it and were able to take them out of the compartment.
Second disappointment: I got the new batteries and when I inserted them... NO SOUND!! I checked polarity just in case I overlooked, but they were correctly placed. I then tried with the old ones and guess what??? No Sound either. If I could return it, I would but it is more expensive to pay the S&H than the actual toy. Fate decided that I will have a pretty-looking train hub for Mexican Train with no sound... I guess that's the price to pay for a Chinese product or I got a LEMON!!

This extra piece has an added fun value. Although only used by us adults (no children around) it seems to have brought out an inner child. Must have something to do with the sound of the train whistle. I would recommend this as an added bonus to the basic dominoes game.
